Liverpool FC saddened by passing of Alex Manninger - Liverpool FC Liverpool FC is deeply saddened by the passing of former goalkeeper Alex Manninger at the age of 48.

These are the 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 of the disaster in 1989, as found in the 2016 inquests which ruled that supporters were "unlawfully killed."

The findings of the inquests led to an apology from the British Prime Minister, saying: "not enough people in this country understand what the people of Merseyside have been through."

Over 450,000 pages of evidence were reviewed, with the panel finding "no evidence" in support of allegations of "exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans" and "no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium."

The Home Secretary said of the families and survivors: "They have faced hostility, opposition and obfuscation, and the authorities that should have been trusted, have laid blame and tried to protect themselves instead of acting in the public interest."

David Duckenfield, who was match commander at the fatal semi-final, was found to have been grossly negligent by the jury at the 2016 inquest.

Only one individual has ever been successfully prosecuted for what happened at Hillsborough – the stadium safety officer, Graham Mackrell, was fined £6,500.
