What an outstanding weekend of racing for the Flying Fifteen Open, here at Burton Sailing Club

The forecast wind arrived as promised, and provided some excellent racing across the fleet.

Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht club’s Rob Mountain and Chris Clancy were never threatened in their pursuit of the trophy though, with four wins from the five races sailed and only a third place to discard.

Graham and Alasdair Sharp of Plockton SmallBoat sailing Club in Scotland, finished second overall in their beautiful Classic.

Burton’s own, Tim Bird and Martin Nelson took the final podium spot of the weekend.

The wind for the weekend was variable, with gusts of 25 knots plus and huge shifts diminishing to a lightish breeze on Saturday, followed by some punchy gusts this morning.
The racecourses provided a good and challenging selection of sailing angles, with some good long beats and exhilarating reaches and runs.
Plenty of opportunity to make gains and losses throughout the fleet!

It was a pleasure to see so many visitors and their families enjoying the club hospitality … what a great bunch of people! Thank you all for coming along.

As always, huge thanks must also go to our volunteer club members, who gave up their time to run the racing, providedsafetycover on the water, feed and water the troops, bake cakes, and even write quizzes and organise entertainment for last night…. A superb job!
Thank you all!

☀️ Sunshine, racing and 50+ paddle boarders on the water — what a way to kick off the Pump n Paddle race season!
Burton Sailing Club was delighted to be the first venue to host a Pump’n’Paddle race day, welcoming paddle boarders to Foremark Reservoir for a day of friendly competition and a fantastic atmosphere.
As the first in a series of 3 events planned throughout the year, it couldn’t have been a better start for the Pump’n’Paddle team!

Thanks to all the members who helped on the water and in the clubhouse. A big shout out to Glyn for co-ordinating the event - great job!
