Well, despite the mill pond that we were greeted with first thing, the wind filled in as promised, and with a slight delay of 25 minutes to allow the new wind to settle, racing got underway.

Tom White of Olton Mere Sailing Club drew first blood, taking the win in the first race, with Ed Johnson of Girton Sailing Club in second and Jon wood of Avon Sailing Club in third.

After lunch, the course was extended to include a second beat albeit from a different direction as the wind funnelled up the leg of the reservoir.

Managing to read the new course best was Ady Davis also of Girton, who took the win, much to the delight of his club mates Tom having to settle for second place ahead of Jon, who again managed a consistent third.

The course remained the same for the third and final race as the wind dropped slightly.

Tom finished the day as he started, by securing the win and the honours overall on the day. Marcus Shaw of Girton SC achieved a days best position in second place, with Ady in third.

With three people on the same score of 6 points overall, third place was decided on countback, which meant that Marcus sealed the bronze and that all important place in the mushroom podium.
Ady finished second overall, and with Tom scoring two bullets on the day, a well deserved event win.

Thank you to all of our visitors for coming along today, and as always, our own club members, who gave up their time both on and off the water to ensure the event ran smoothly.

We very much look forward to seeing you all again next year.

🎖️Congratulations to Amelia & Phoebe! ⛵
A huge well done to two of our young sailors, Amelia and Phoebe, who had an incredible week representing the Derbyshire Youth Sailing Team at the NSSA Regatta in Kent.

Competing on the sea for the very first time in their ILCAs, both girls produced fantastic performances:
⭐ Amelia made her debut in the ILCA 6 (Radial), finishing 24th out of 41 sailors.
⭐ Phoebe finished an outstanding 5th out of 19, including two race wins and a third-place finish during the regatta.

We’re incredibly proud to see our young sailors developing their skills and representing both Derbyshire and Burton Sailing Club so well. Experiences like these are invaluable, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next.

Congratulations – we’re all cheering you on! 🙌🙌
