Enjoyed being back at Derby Rugby Club to celebrate this award recognising the club’s role in developing a British & Irish Lion.
With RFU CEO Bill Sweeney, President Gwent Paylor and Chair Martyn Murney, it was a chance to recognise how much clubs like this matter to sport. Grassroots clubs in communities like DRFC are where the country’s sporting heroes are made, through years of hard work, high standards and commitment.

Spent some time at Derby Rugby Club (DRFC) at Haslams Lane chatting with the Club's President, Gwent Paylor, and Chair, Martyn Murney, about how things are going and what they’ve got planned next.
With roots going back to 1891, DRFC has been part of our city’s story for well over a century. Today it’s home to men’s and women’s teams, a brilliant junior section for both boys and girls, and an inclusive community of supporters that clearly cares deeply about the club.
From coaching and organising match days to keeping the clubhouse running, so much of what happens there relies on volunteers.
Clubs like this are such an important part of our city and with buckets of community spirit it’s clear why the club proudly calls itself . 🏉
