Having finished her football scholarship in the USA, Stella underwent ACL surgery before leaving and is now home rehabilitating.
Using a strain gauge dynamometer during anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rehabilitation is vital for objective, reliable, and isolated measurement of quadriceps strength deficit, which is the single strongest predictor of successful return-to-sport and long-term joint health.
The Kinvent Official strain gauge is fixed to an immovable frame to isolate the knee extensors to quantify peak force, rate of force development (RFD), and Limb Symmetry Index (LSI) without placing shear stress on the graft.
The Kinvent Official Delta dual force plates and KMove IMU are essential for assessing dynamic movement strategies, inter-limb asymmetries, and weight-bearing distribution during double-leg tasks like squats. The force plates reveal subtle, subconscious compensatory patternsβsuch as shifting ground reaction force toward the uninjured limb during the concentric phase of a squatβensuring clinicians target functional mechanics and restore true mechanical symmetry before progression to dynamic impact loading.

Project: Run supported sprinter Omar in clinic while home from college in the USA.
We've included deep squats, hip thrusts, loaded step-ups, and hip flexor work in Omar's program while home because each targets a distinct but complementary quality needed for 400m performance.
Deep squats build maximal lower-body strength and a broad base of force capacity across the hip, knee, and ankle, which underpins everything else in the program.
Hip thrusts isolate and load the glutes specifically in a horizontal force orientation, directly supporting acceleration and the propulsive drive phase that becomes increasingly important as Omar fatigues in the back half of the race.
Loaded step-ups train unilateral strength and power in a pattern that closely mirrors the single-leg nature of sprinting, while also correcting any left-right asymmetries that bilateral lifts like the squat can mask.
Finally, hip flexor training addresses the swing phase of the stride, an area frequently neglected relative to posterior chain work, and is essential for maintaining stride frequency and knee drive as speed and fatigue accumulate over 400m.
Together, these exercises build a balanced strength profile across both the propulsive and recovery phases of the sprint stride, reducing injury risk while giving Omar the physical capacity to hold form and speed longer into the race.

Welcomimg home project: run supported athlete Omar from college in Atlanta with some work around hip and pelvis.
Strong hip flexor capacity is a cornerstone of elite sprinting because these muscles drive rapid thigh recovery, optimise frontβside mechanics, and directly influence step frequency.
When sprinters produce highβvelocity hip flexion, theyβre essentially βresettingβ the limb for the next stride, and the athletes with the fastest, most forceful recovery tend to maintain superior horizontal projection.
Isometric hipβflexor work is particularly powerful, fixing the joint angle and forcing the athlete to generate maximal tension without movement, we create a highβthreshold environment that recruits more motor units, especially in the deep stabilisers like iliacus and psoas.

Key that we rebuild strength and function around the hip and pelvis in largely non-provocative positions.
The rehab targets the musculature around the hip to provide dynamic stabilization, compressing the femoral head into the socket, so limiting harmful shearing or sliding forces during movement.
Muscle weakness can alter the forces and loads within the hip joint in a detrimental way, shifting excessive stress onto the anterior aspect of the joint, the labrum, and the cartilage. Rebuilding strength ensures that Paul has adequate neuromuscular control to absorb loads and protect vulnerable tissues before engaging in high impact activities like volleyball.

It's been a pleasure supporting Scottish Rugby international with his Achilles rehabilitation before he joins his new club.
Building calf strength during the initial weeks while still immobilized in the VACOped boot is critical because it prepares the healing Achilles tendon to handle the high forces of walking, which can reach up to three times your body weight.
Initiating safe, progressive loadingβsuch as seated isometric holds in a shortened, plantarflexed positionβstimulates tendon stiffness and builds foundational capacity before the boot is removed, which is vital for preventing debilitating tendon elongation once full, unprotected weight-bearing begins.
Alongside calf development, it is also important to actively build strength back into the surrounding ankle musculature, particularly the peroneals.
Because the Achilles tendon features a unique anatomical structure that twists approximately 90 degrees laterally before inserting into the heel bone, the orientation of the foot during movements like eversion (which is controlled by the peroneals) directly influences how strain is transferred and distributed through the muscle-tendon unit. Therefore, strengthening the peroneals helps restore essential ankle stability and ensures optimal mechanical loading across the healing tendon.
The tool allows us to re-establish ROM into the mid foot and rear foot while Dorsiflexion is still limited.
