800m Team East Lothian AC runner Jamie in clinic building hip function.
The Exxentric flywheel allows for through range strengthening of these essential stabilisers (piriformis, gemelli, obturators, and gluteus maximus/medius fibers). Isolation with the continuous feedback of the flywheel forces rapid neuromuscular adaptations, teaching the brain to fire the deep stabilizing rotators precisely.
Project: physio
Every individual has differing needs and goals so their personal project and journey will be unique to them.
Project: Physio is a pioneering sports physiotherapy, sports massage, and advanced rehabilitation clinic, based in Edinburgh's West End
Project: Physio | Redesigning Health, Wellness, and Performance With a combined 25 years in private physiotherapy practice and experience ranging from Rugby World Cups to Commonwealth Games our team of Stephen Mutch and Kenny Watt bring a huge amount of knowledge

KBox Pro being put to use to provide an eccentric stimulus to hamstrings post repair.
Hamstring deficits post a hamstring graft are incredibly common so it's essential that once we have the go ahead from the surgeon we push on with strength.
Hamstrings are strongest when they are lengthening under tension. Traditional weights struggle to fully tax this phase because as we are limited by how much weight we can lift concentrically (on the way up).
With the flywheel, if we guide patients to give 100% effort to pull the weight up, the machine returns 100% of that force on the way down.
By resisting that return force over a shorter window of time, we create an "overload" that triggers massive strength gains and muscle growth.

Mountain runner Ifan in clinic looking at single leg force production.
Because running is essentially a series of unilateral (single-legged) bounds, evaluating how Ifan generates, absorbs, and transfers force on one leg at a time gives you us a highly specific window into his mechanics.
Using the data provided by the Delta Force Plates we can then highlight areas for improvement, in this case his deceleration/braking phase on the left leg. We can then prescribe exercise to overload and train this skill.

David working on run preparation post using the KBoxx Pro.
The KBoxx flywheel provides us with a novel stimulus in ACL rehab:
โข Eccentric overload โ the flywheel resists harder the more power David puts in, helping rebuild quad strength and tendon capacity safely and efficiently.
โข Early power development โ controlled acceleration + deceleration builds the braking strength we need before returning him to running.
โข Better movement control โ the constant resistance forces him to stabilise through the whole range, improving symmetry and knee confidence.
โข Run-ready resilience โ stronger quads, better shock absorption, and improved eccentric control = a safer, smoother transition back to running.

David making progress through his repair.
Quadriceps testing to check on progress and readiness to run.
Strain Dynamometer providing much needed data on limb symmetry index
Transitioning a patient from walking to running is a critical milestone in ACL recovery. Dynamometer data ensures the "quadriceps brake" is strong enough to handle the impact forces of running (which can be 2 to 3 times a person's body weight).
We also take a look at his weight bearing status as his squat depth increases, and the Delta Force Plates combined with the KMove provide insight into his weight bearing symmetry and force output through his eccentric and concentric phases

ProjectโRun decathlete moving through a targeted lowerโleg assessment session built around the unique, highโload demands of decathlonโevents that require explosive takeโoff, highโvelocity sprinting, multidirectional control, and the ability to tolerate repeated impact across days of competition.
The session includes runโspecific ankle isometric testing on force plates to quantify plantarflexor strength and stiffnessโcritical for sprint acceleration, long jump takeโoff, and pole vault approach mechanics.
Kneeโtoโwall test with checks dorsiflexion mobility, ensuring the recovering ankle can handle the deep shin angles seen in hurdles and javelin blocking.
Dynamic control is profiled through the Y Balance Test again made reliable and repeatable via the , highlighting how well the athlete stabilises in multiple planesโessential for transitioning between events with very different movement demands.
Power asymmetries are captured on the with a singleโleg countermovement jump, giving insight into how the injured limb is producing and absorbing force. The session finishes with a 5/1 RSI test to assess reactive strengthโvital for sprinting, hurdles, and jumps.
Together, these measures create a precise, dataโdriven map of the athleteโs readiness to return to the full decathlon load while guiding targeted rehab and performance progression.
