Bike Hire, Servicing, Fix Your Own Bike Sessions, Maintenance Classes and Bike Buying Advice Heriot-Watt University’s Bike Bothy has now reopened.
It was initially set up in 2011 in partnership between HW Transition, Climate Challenge Fund and Cycling Scotland to promote sustainable travel via cycling to Heriot-Watt University. As of this academic year, Oriam Scotland's Sports Performance Centre are now managing the Bothy and installed a new manager. Cycling is one of the easiest ways to fit exercise into your daily routine because it's also
a form of transport. Cycling also:
• saves you money
• gets you fit
• helps the environment
It's a low-impact type of exercise, so it's easier on your joints than running or other high-impact aerobic activities. But it still helps you get into shape. The bothy will be open on Tuesdays and Fridays between 11am and 4pm and is located just off The Avenue on Garden Lane. The Bike Bothy will mainly be hiring bikes to students and staff. There is a wide range of hire bikes available including Hybrid, Road and Mountain Bikes, which can be hired for £15 per week, £40 per month and £100 per semester. Included in this will be a good quality lock and helmet. There will also be bike servicing (three levels of servicing), monthly maintenance classes for beginners or more advanced cyclists, Fix Your Own Bike workshop and bike washing facilities. Payment for all hires and services can be made at Oriam reception, however please enquire in person or over email prior to paying for any hire or service. All queries about the Bike Bothy should go to Kerr Sproul, Bike Bothy Manager, by email to [email protected] or pop in during opening hours.
