2s didn't get the memo, again.
The 1s had a close affair vs Grange. A great effort to give the league leaders such a close run. 2 weeks in a row with 2 very close finishes, in both cup and league. Donny & Tiaan keeping up their great work with the new ball before Wylie took some middle overs wickets. A favourite kind of wickets. Oli got the 1s off to a traditional good start. Starts for Donny & Wylie too. Olly Pill did his thing of always scoring runs with another EPL 50. Tiaan stuck around, but the lads fell 6 short. 37 extras conceded to Grange's 6, could well have been the difference.
Extras certainly weren't the difference. The 2s had a calamitous day out where everything that could go wrong, went wrong. Or all the bad luck you could have had, you got. Mussy had the freedom to come out strong, R.High picked up a couple of poles. So comes out with his head held high, as everyone else drowned their sorrows in a packet of Magnums in the sun.
2s Braw Skelp - another win. DK and Kev started quickly on a spongy wicket. Both got to the mid 40s. Boothers kicked on & looked great for his 51. Great knock. Hamish & Abid took early wickets, George unlucky to not have 2. Few drops and extras got Grange a bit closer than it could have been. But another Skelp win.
3s win! 3s win in dramatic style. Not a 5.30pm finish. Aryaman & Ethan in the wickets restricting Morton to 169. Vishal got the chase off to a good start, 20s from Simon & Veer helped. But Pranjan with 36* was the star steering the 3s close before Aryaman hit the winning runs.
The 4s did a 3s. The 2s are not going past 5pm at the moment, but need to do it in a winning cause. Jebran with a brilliant 4fer & Vikash a tidy 2fer were the backbone of keeping DT to a low score. Rohan did his thing of not faffing around and whacking 66 from 34 balls! The 4s chased their target in 12 overs!
Sunday 5s win again. Lochlan Morris the main stay with the bat hitting 71 from 44 balls. Bosh. Paddy with a quick 39 & Oli Robinson 26 as well. Jebran with 4-2-6-3 almost won the game in his opening spell. T. Lancs with 2fer & Charlie 1 wicket led the 5s to another win.
Well done everyone

Weekend Teams 27-28th June
3s on a Sunday? Far too confusing.
Grange pay our 1s a visit. Made that sound like they're popping round for a cuppa, chinwag and to eat a few rich tea biscuits. That might happen too be fair, but there'll probably be cricket involved too. We welcome new signing Salman Asif, relocated from sunny Newcastle to sunny Dalkeith. Ozzy goes up top to fill the Carson shaped hole in our lives.
The 2s travel to Musselburgh. Some bounceback ability is needed to keep promotion on track. Beej, Loomes, AT all return. None of this losing by 2 runs or having a collective nosebleed when facing 40mph bowling this week.
3s on a Sunday is just frankly confusing, I dont like it. Ban it. It made selection far too awkward. Too many colours on the spreadsheet too many names. Too much. 3s look to start the 2nd half of the season strong and solidify 1st place, with an eye on sealing promotion as soon as they can. Pranjan Duncan Patel is up to the 3s.
The 4s face Drummond today. Duncan takes charge, Vikash drops down which is a luxury for the 4s. I can see it already wickets from Viksah and Toby Tucker in tandem. This is the way. Another win, closer to the top of the table.
The Sunday 5s face Dunfermline. Tessa and Lucy, like Abby in recent weeks will show the lads how's its done no doubt. With tactical maestro (he brings his own portable tactics white board to the matches. I'm kidding, or am I?) Matt Lancs, in the side, Michael is confident of another Sunday win and whatever that means winning the Sunday League.
Go well everyone

Weekend Milestones 20-21st June 2026
Before my keyboard melts in the heat.
Donny - kinda running out of stuff to say. Donny is on a tear this year, and not just through the Prestwick night clubs. Runs & wickets galore. 78* in a big partnership with Carson to secure victory vs Souths.
Kev Singh - Kev 3s runs, dreamy runs, oooh isn't that sikly and lovely runs. Kev was the pillar of the 3s innings to rack up a defendable score vs Souths 3s. Then the bowlers did their thing.
Oli Hairs - Oli was the mainstay of the batting vs Clydesdale (you don't want to know how badly I keep cocking up the spelling of Clydesdale). 60 from 79 balls. Maybe just 1 more batter to score a few & what could have been.
Pranjan Duncan Patel - After a few weekends of 40s, finally tipped it over to a 50. 58 from 65 as the 4s rocked up over 230. Lovely day by the seaside. Vital runs from Pranjan making sure victory wasn't in sight for Bass Rock.
Carson - his Watsonian EPL swansong. A 50 in a winning cause. The man, the myth, the legend. There will be many of us who can say 'I batted with/watched Mike Carson'. Making it look as easy as ever. Hate to think how many runs he'll score in the South of England when more decks are like the M74.
Well done everyone!

Week Results 21st June
Almost another 4from4 Saturday. Be pretty awkward if the guy writing this is the 2s captain, who's team pooed the bed on Saturday...
1s - Gaz won the toss & bowled - Inch Park, not a surprise. Fantastic bowling from Donny & Tiaan early doors set up Gaz, G & Wylie taking 7 wickets between them to bowl out Souths for 152. Carson, bowing out from Watsonians EPL action before his relocation South, alongside Donny made short work of the run chase. A 4th EPL win.
A close affair on Sunday in the Cup Semi-Final. Oli did Oli things and made it look like he was batting somewhere else. Besides Wylie with 37 scores were hard to come by. BUT runs on the board. Donny on fire as ever with 2/23 from 10. 2 from Oli & Tiaan, plus 2 run outs, got the 1s close, but Cyldesdale snuck home. Great effort from the 1s.
2s - First half, all good. Solid effort. Fantastic 2nd spell from Abid & bowling from GB alongside saw 5 wickets fall for 3 runs. Under 200 on a sunny day, game on. Yeah, about that. The 2s did the batting equivalent of Seppuku-ing themselves. GB ran out JT without facing. Rory lbw. DK bounced out by a ball not travelling much quicker than 35mph. 8-4 game over. Pooed the bed. Etc etc.
Nice T20 win vs Boroughmuir. Kev, Oli Rob & Ev hitting runs after the 2s started quickly. T20 Oli Rob is elite. Evan on a hattrick in this 1st over, legend. Rory 3fer too plus Oli R & Abid had 6-1-13-2 between them!
3s - HERE WE GO. NO GAME PAST 6.30PM 3s ARE BACK! Kev Singh runs, luscious. Jai with a quick 32 got 3s past 150. Vikash 2-11, Vishal 2-9, Magic 3-8 - the 3s love a single digit run conceding spell. Plus 3-20 from AA led to another big 3s win. Comfortably 1st place now.
4s - Pranjan Patel, is he the new Duncan Robinson?? Runs for Dave up top before Pranjan Duncan Patel hit another score for the 4s. Past the mid 40s this time. Jebran & Kev whacked a few too. Jebran, Pranjan & Dawlatzai the stars with the ball. 6for35 between them. Another win for the 4s & in 3rd.
5s - Sunday funday. A lower scoring affair. Jebran & Kyle the main men. Mr E.Xtras top scoring. Kyle with 4fer secured the win. T.Lancs, Jack, Jebran & TOBY with cheap 1 wickets each. Victory

Weekend Teams 20-21st June 2026
Loving this midsummer, aren't you? About as pleasant a Midsummer as finding Inspector Barnaby at the end of the street investigating a grisly murder.
The 1s head to Inch Park to play Edinburgh Souths. Oli Hairs is gutted to be missing this one. G Carr is back, so even if the weather isn't perfect, at least we have that particular ray of sunshine back with us :D Gaz skippers his first game as a married man (congrats Gaz). Almost halfway through the EPL Season!
On Sunday the 1s head through to Glasgow to face Clydesdale in the Scottish Cup semi-final. How big of a night out will Donny, Tiaan and Ozzy have before it? Is there a midnight curfew? Is Ben Stokes available on Sunday? A big day for the club, a year ago I was typing about ESCA Champ promotion & now we're a game away from a Cup final! Huge days.
The 2s are at home in what is possibly a promotion 40 pointer. After losing the last 2 games by a combined 8 runs, it might be an idea to bat first next time. But a bounce back, nonetheless. Farhan is in the XI with a 'Licence to Whack.' Been a great start to the 2s season so far (especially compared to 2025), with 2nd place up for grabs.
Talking of bounce backs. The 3s will look to make it 8 wins from 9 in a table topping clash vs Souths 3s. A win keeps them top. Boothers & Kev Singh in the XI means anything is possible, as long as Ethan stocks up at Costco beforehand.
The 4s are on a road trip to North Berwick. Cute. I can picture Coxy & Pranjan having chips by the sea. A win keeps the pressure on 3rd place as the 4s, like the 2s & 3s, look to push towards promotion. Run machine Robinson is there, all is well.
On Sunday the Sunday/5s are up against Penicuik. Captain Ferguson is also eyeing up a league table topping, not sure what happens if you win the Sunday league - do you get promoted to a Saturday? Conversely, if you finish bottom do you get relegated to 3pm on Mondays - so it's a choice of cricket or watching Loose Women on the tele? Abby will, no doubt, lead from the front with bat and ball again.
Go well everyone!

Week Results 14th June
Only 6 results to use my repeatable 'bants' about. I say bants because I am a 34 year old man desperately trying to hold onto his youth. I am failing, because on Saturday I hit my left kneecap off a doorframe and my knee was buggered for all of Saturday. So I ran like Long John Silver between the wickets.
1s - Making Heriots chase 250? Runs on the board? Was it ON? In the end..... no. BUT incredible work by the man of the moment Donny, his first EPL hundred (I am pretty sure) to give Sonians a sniff. Pilly who scores runs each week as if he is programmed to got 59 & Tiaan 49. Donny also reduced Heriots to 90ish for 3, but further in-roads were hard to come by. A great effort nonetheless.
2s - the 2s seem to be on a run of ever increasingly tight games. 6 runs last week? PAH, how about 2 runs this week! Ross & Vikash kept things quiet with the new ball. A customary 3fer from R.High & tight bowling from Abid kept Stew Mel to 182 from 45. The chase started in sub-optimal circumstances at 3-2 in the first over. Rory recovered matters, but at 99-6, not ideal. Peg Leg DK going into the 70s, almost bringing it home but, well, didn't.
Braw Skelp - rain & midges hit & prevented a result. But DK & Xander put on 104 for the 4th wicket in 9.3 overs. Safe to say DK rode his luck. Riz & Rory both hit fluid teens.
3s - The 3s may still have finished before 6pm, just in a losing cause this time.... overs were shared around with 9 bowlers used. Aryaman & Magic in the wickets, as usual. The run chase, erm not ideal, "not ideal" = 45-7. Pranjan with 47 earned the 3s some bonus points & pride, jug evasion nonetheless though. Can't win 'em all.
4s - 4 from 4. Bu**er. No Duncan Robinson 50, no party. Only 45. However T. Lancs hit a great 37, showing his promise. They lacked the support to post a defendable score. Early wickets were hard to come by & the 4s slipped to defeat.
5s - A WIN! Kyle, Charlotte & Ludwig with 8 wickets between them. Kyle with 4/37 being the pick. With 177 to chase, Pranjan carried on his Saturday form with another mid-40s score. Charlotte was the star with an unbeaten 50 to give Watsonians a weekend win!
Well done everyone

Milestones 7th June
4 Saturday losses = slightly less Canva work. I am conflicted.
Donny - what a man. What a 2026 he is having. An EPL hundred. 100 from 127. A 134 run partnership with Pilly, was vital in setting the 1s up to post a potentially defendable score. No doubt had a big night out in Prestwick & a fresh back and sides to celebrate.
Dan Kirk - writing about myself in the first, second or third person?! Nearly, very nearly, led the 2s to an unlikely win with 76 from 84 balls. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.
Xander Abbey - Xander hit midweek bombs. 64 not out from 34 balls, 5 6s and 2 4s. More 6s than 4s always says a lot. Put on 104 in 9.3 overs with DK.
Dan Kirk - hit 6s! Stat Bomb - Amount of league/cup 6s hit by Dan between 2023-May 2026 = 2. Amount of 6s hit in June 2026 = 6! Lifting weights works. . Hit boundaries, got dropped a few times, had fun.
Olly Pillinger - absolute run machine. Like the T-1000 for runs in Scottish cricket. Was a guy. Another Watsonian 50. Another week where it makes my Canva life easier. Keep em coming Olly.
Charlotte Nevard - a red ink 53 in a successful run chase for the Sunday 5th XI. Red ink & winning - the best kind. Her partnership with Pranjan was instrumental in the 5s getting over the line and giving the club 1 weekend win!
Well done all

Weekend but not weekend Results to 7th June 2026
Losing myself in which week I post about which weeks results. Don't enter your mid 30s kids, it's not a good place.
1s. A huge league win, propelled to 226 thanks to Oli & Olly. Hairs belting 92 and jug avoiding, avoidance/evasion, i can never remember. I'm not a tax accountant. Runs on the board in the EPL. Oli had a smashing day out, with a 5fer to boot. No need to buy 2 jugs. Donny in a rich vein of form with a 3fer as well. Captain Gaz could watch on, beer in hand, (with a slightly lighter wallet after Musselburgh races), with pride.
There was a frosty t20, I think beanie hats were worn vs Grange which the 1s lost. Donny unbeaten on 84. AT again showed his promise, this time with the ball.
Women. Defeat to Stew Mel. Not a day to be a batter. I wonder how much Emily enjoyed that train ride back from Leeds after her uni ball. Great effort from Kirsty with the ball with 4/32
2s. Is Oli Rob back? Did he ever leave us? 4fer alongside ATs 3 limited Accies to 221, but catches win matches... Lots of starts, interesting scorebook math, but AT was the star. Coming of age knock almost got the 2s over the line.
Braw Skelp. Oli Rob again star with the ball. Riz & Rory helped slow a fast start down. Batters tried to have a whack. Lots of guys caught at mid off, Groundhog Day style. DK with 36 kept the score with the rate. Oli Rob (all rounder??) & Vikash, almost snuck the 2s cheeky victory. Almost.
3s. Contractually obliged to not play past 6pm. Vikash & Hamish 3fers with the new ball did the damage. With 85 to chase, Vishal clearly wanted to see if victory could be wrapped up before 5pm. 46 off 18 balls! 3s 7 from 7!!
4s. 4s doing 3s things. Strong bowling effort limited Accies. Dawlatzai with a superb 5/24, meant that Rohan could smack a few about and 4s Run Machine Robinson could notch up another 50+. 4s now 3rd.
Sunday team won v Heriots. JT with 82*, Matt Lancs in the runs. Kyle & Jamie 3fers each led to a big win.
WANDIES. Wandies beat the 5s. Fewer ringers in the 5s lead to higher chances of Wandies victory. Louis & JT retiring but big Wandies runs from Lochy & Jason = High 10s all around.
