Last weekend, we had quite a few fantastic MOC (My Own Creation) builds with a whole range of different themes at our Wee LEGO Club! From a rocket and a fire engine to a wee green dinosaur and a leisure space, there was so much creativity on display. 🚀🚒🦖

Even if you start by looking for a picture of a LEGO model for inspiration, by the time you start building, you’ll often end up creating something of your own — and it might not look exactly like the original idea at all. That’s the fun of LEGO building: taking inspiration and turning it into your own design and creation! What an excellent job, everyone! 👏

Unfortunately, the Wee LEGO Club will have to take a short break this coming weekend 22 August ❌️❌️, as I’ll be away. But don’t worry — I’ll be back, and the LEGO Club will resume as normal on 29 August.

So, the summer break is over, and it’s time to do some more LEGO building at our Wee LEGO Club. The 2x4 rectangular brick is one of my favourites because of its versatility which you can use it to build so many different things! Last weekend, one kid used some 2x4 bricks to make roadblocks, which I thought was a brilliant and creative idea!

We also dug out some DUPLO bricks from our recent donations and had a good sorting session. Among the collection, I came across a few vintage LEGO figures that you wouldn’t find in LEGO stores today, as well as some Duplo dinosaurs! Some of these DUPLO figures are looking for a new home. If you’re, feel free to speak to our staff at Wee Play Hub, or come along to our Wee LEGO Club next Saturday from 1:30–2:30pm at Ocean Terminal.

How many ducks can you build using just 6 bricks in 3 minutes? In fact this is a famous activity used by the LEGO Group in their new staff training (which I don’t know before!). There is no absolutely right way to build a duck, it is just 'your way'. You can try this task at home, and allow your tremendous creativity to flow. See how many different forms of ducks you can come up with!

Last weekend we saw a fantastic variety of LEGO creations, including a knife with a wee chopping board, a spaceship with weapons, red and blue brick walls, and a green park with traffic lights!

At our Wee LEGO Club, I often have children asking for help to find a particular brick for their build. It's a great opportunity to practise communication, with one person acting as the builder and the other as the brick supplier. Sometimes they're looking for a tiny piece or a LEGO element with a very specific shape or colour, so describing what they need becomes part of the fun! Thankfully, our sorted LEGO storage box make the search much easier, allowing builders to spend more time creating and less time hunting for bricks!

As we are counting down the end of the summer break, our Wee LEGO Club will open as usual this Saturday between 0130 and 0230 pm at Ocean Terminal. Will see you there!

In contrast to following an instruction manual to build a particular LEGO set, our Wee LEGO Club gives children the freedom to create whatever they can imagine. Last weekend, I was amazed by the creativity of our wee builders—from a jumping step and a spinner creation, to a spaceship with a weapon storage compartment and even a beautiful waterfall scene. Every build tells its own story!

One of the things I love most about LEGO is the freedom to build, play, experiment, and bring ideas to life. There is no right or wrong way to create—just endless possibilities.

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Glasgow Science Centre as part of its 25th birthday celebrations. I was at the Brick Challenge station where participants were given 50 LEGO bricks and invited to build something about nature, technology, or the city.

There were so many fantastic and imaginative creations, from individual masterpieces to collaborative builds, it was wonderful to see creativity come to life!

One of the joys of LEGO building is that you don't always need to know what you're going to make when you start. Sometimes all it takes is picking up a few bricks and letting your imagination lead the way—you'll often find yourself creating something unexpected once you get into the flow.

What would you build with just 50 bricks?

Last weekend at Wee LEGO Club, our builders created a secret lab that quickly turned into an exciting LEGO building challenge! Activities like these can help children develop problem-solving skills as they search for the right bricks, build spatial awareness, and practise taking turns while working together.

Another favourite build was the Lightning McQueen racing car, which proved very popular with our wee LEGO enthusiasts.

Have you ever heard the LEGO term "MOC"? It stands for My Own Creation—a LEGO build designed from your own imagination rather than following a set of instructions. Anyone who creates their own design from LEGO bricks is a MOC builder, just like our brilliant wee builders last weekend, who came up with all sorts of creative cars, boats, and other fantastic ideas! 🚗⛵💫

Building MOCs is one of the greatest joys of LEGO. It's all about using your imagination, getting creative, and letting your ideas run wild. What would you build? A long truck? Your favourite movie scene? A dream house? The possibilities are endless!

Last week, I travelled to Billund, Denmark 🇩🇰 —known as the "Capital of Children" and the birthplace of LEGO® bricks. Visiting the LEGO House was an unforgettable experience of my trip. It's the ultimate destination for both children and grown-ups to immerse themselves in hands-on creativity and let their imagination run free.

One of my favourite highlights was building a LEGO trophy, which unexpectedly turned into a Scottish tartan flag trophy🏆🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿! It certainly wasn't an easy build—it collapsed several times, and I probably spent the longest time at this station. But every rebuild became an opportunity to practise problem-solving and engineering thinking, figuring out how to strengthen the base so it could support the design.

As I became fully absorbed in the process, I found myself in a wonderful creative flow. There was something incredibly satisfying about overcoming each challenge and finally seeing the finished model come together. It was such a fun and rewarding experience!

The Wee LEGO Club will be back as usual this Saturday, and I can't wait to share the LEGO excitement and creativity with everyone! See you at the Wee Play Hub in Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre between 0130 and 0230 pm.

Our Wee LEGO Club is all about creating a relaxed, welcoming space where kids (and parents too!) can enjoy building LEGO together, play, showcase their amazing creations, and most importantly, have fun. The LEGO cars were once again a huge hit with the kids at last weekend's session!

Just a quick heads-up: Wee LEGO Club will be taking a one-week break this Saturday as I'll be travelling to LEGOLAND in Billund, Denmark 🇩🇰 — the birthplace of the LEGO brick! I'm looking forward to bringing back plenty of inspiration (and hopefully something exciting to share with everyone!).

We'll be back as usual on 11th, 18th, and 25th July, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm at Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre.
