Game 2 was our first derby of the season with fellow Rutherford recreational team. These lasses have been together a while now and we knew it would be a proper derby and physical game.

The game was very back and forth as each side tried to create space for the shots. Both teams were battling every chance they got. There was only a few clear chances for either keeper to deal with in the first half. Second half Rutherford Rec’s made a few changes to the formation they had and utilised the long ball which we managed to deal with comfortably. After a coming together of players we attempted to play the ball out from the back and quick closing down from their forward meant we were caught in possession, they then managed to get the ball into place and a powerful shot beat our keeper. A good goal taken by their forward but disappointing for us. We continued to battle hard to try and create the chance of an equaliser, but unfortunately this didn't happen. Great performance from everyone to try and get the win. Game finished 1-0.

First game of the morning, was against top of the league Hetton so we knew it would be a tough opposition and the change to the team as we had both keepers out injured.

There were battles all over the pitch with either side creating chances. First chance was for Hetton who had a corner on the left and played a high dangerous ball into the box which called on our keeper to come out and claim the ball. The middle of the park was busy with plenty of chances for the ball to be won on either side. A hand ball by Hetton just inside their half and Claire fancied her chances on the free kick, unfortunately too much power on the shot only sees the ball rise over the crossbar and no trouble for the keeper. Another free kick lead to a flick on off Di**les head and it went wide of the goal.

We then created a chance with some quick precise passing allowed a cross over from the right wing, a ball played into the box which caused panic for Hetton and Caz managed to be in the right place at the right time to put the ball into the back of the net. Still keeping the pressure on, a ball played out from our keeper to Di**le who went on the attack taking the ball down the left and squaring to Dani who managed to roll her player for her shot to be saved. Still on the attack the second goal comes from a through ball from Di**le giving Dani time to set herself, smashing it into the net. Great all round performance bringing a 2-0 win.

This weekend the girls are back in action at Downhill hub in Sunderland.

Game 1 is 8:15 kick off against Hetton ladies and Game 2 sees us play a bit of a derby against our other Rutherford recreational team with a 9:15 kick off.

Early start as always but if you are at a loose end please do come along to support the lasses!
