I don’t think the biggest lesson in this video is the flag.

Flags matter to many people, but I think something even more important is happening here.

An older generation quietly teaching a younger one.

No classroom.
No lesson plan.
No PowerPoint.
Just one moment that a young boy will probably remember for the rest of his life.

The fact that this young lad stopped his bike and tried to fix the flag before anyone asked him to says something about the values he’s already been taught. His parents deserve enormous credit.

But it also reminds us of something else…

It takes a village to raise a child.

Parents lay the foundations, but every teacher, coach, grandparent, neighbour and mentor helps shape the person that child will become.

Character isn’t built in a single lesson.
It’s built in thousands of small moments.
By the people our children spend time with.
By the examples they see.
By the standards they witness.
By the values they experience every day.

Maybe that’s why I’m so passionate about Champions Character.

At Kicx, we use martial arts as the vehicle, but character is always the destination. Every class is another opportunity to help children develop focus, respect, resilience, kindness and belief in themselves. Not because one lesson changes a child, but because hundreds of positive moments, repeated over time, help shape who they become.

This video is only a few minutes long.

The lesson it teaches could last a lifetime.

❤️ I absolutely loved it.

What makes a great teacher?

Is it the number of championships they've won?

The number of martial arts techniques they know?

Or is it something much more important?

After teaching for over 40 years, I've come to believe that great teachers aren't remembered because they knew the most...

They're remembered because they made the biggest difference.

A great teacher builds confidence.

Encourages children when they want to give up.

Helps them believe in themselves.

Because at Champions Character, we're not just teaching martial arts...

We're helping children become the very best version of themselves.

I've just recorded a short video explaining what I believe makes a truly great teacher. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Just had this through......
I just wanted to share a summary of Alexander’s school report and let you know that I believe martial arts has influenced this outcome:

His report highlights how much his confidence has grown, his positive attitude to learning, excellent progress in reading and writing, and the kind, inclusive way he treats everyone around him. His teachers described him as a wonderful role model and said they’ll really miss him next year.

Thank you all for the amazing support you have given him to become the amazing little boy he is.

📸What a day!

Looking through these photos from Sundays black belt grading, it’s amazing to see the difference in our students from the beginning of the day to the end. You can see the physical exhaustion on their faces, but you can also see something more important… determination, resilience, and heart.

I’m incredibly proud of every student who stepped up onto those mats. This moment is the result of months, and for many, year of dedication. Some have trained for a year, other for 2 years, and for some even longer, all working towards that one day.

The grading lasted around 5 and a half hours! Pushing everyone both physically and mentally. Yet not one student gave up. Not one quit. Every challenge was met with courage.

Moments like those remind us that earning a black belt isn’t about being the strongest or the fastest- it’s about having the perseverance to keep going when things get tough.

To everyone who took part, congratulations. You should be incredibly proud of what you have achieved. This is a milestone you’ll remember for the rest of your lives.

🥋well done, everyone! The entire KICX family is proud of you.

There is one moment at every Black Belt grading that has always been my favourite.

After more than five hours of testing, when every ounce of energy has been given, we ask the students to sit, close their eyes and simply reflect.

In Japanese, this is called Mokusō (黙想) – a time of quiet reflection.

A moment to think about the years of training... the thousands of repetitions... the early mornings... the setbacks... the victories... and the goal that so many dream of, but so few are willing to work for.

It's also a moment of gratitude.

Gratitude for the opportunity to complete one part of a journey that, in reality, is only just beginning. Because earning a Black Belt isn't the end of the journey. It's the beginning of a lifelong journey of learning, growth and self-discovery.

As I looked around the room at the weekend, it struck me that we've always taught this, even before we gave it a name.

Today, Lesson 9 of our Champions Character programme is Wellbeing. We teach that true wellbeing comes from looking after four parts of ourselves: Body, Mind, Heart and Soul.

Many people think this is something new because we've now given it a name. The truth is, we've been teaching these principles for decades. We just didn't call it Champions Character back then.

I take no credit for the nine lessons. They aren't my ideas. They are timeless principles—common-sense truths that have helped people build strong character and live fulfilling lives for generations. We've simply brought them together into a programme that helps children and families discover them in a practical, enjoyable way through martial arts.

I love this photograph.

To me, it captures everything.

A young martial artist sitting in Mokusō... not thinking about the next kick or the next grading, but quietly reflecting on how far they've come and the person they're becoming.

Sometimes the most powerful lessons in martial arts are taught in complete silence.

— Master T – The Karate Kid Teacher

One More Thing...

Character Comes First.

Your child becomes like the people they spend time with. Choose the tribe that builds them up. 💪🥋

🔥ITS GOING TO BE A HOT ONE THIS WEEK! ☀️🥋

When things get more challenging, we have 2 choices- we can make excuses, or we can take MASSIVE action.

At KICX, we teach our students that being proactive means doing what needs to be done, even if it’s not easy. Training in the heat won’t be as comfortable as training on a cool day, but challenges are where growth happens. Every student who turn up, gives their best effort, and pushes through the conditions is building resilience, discipline, and a winning mindset.

Don’t worry- we’ll be making sure everyone stays safe throughout the classes. We’ll be giving plenty of water breaks, allowing rest when needed, and adapting the intensity where appropriate.

💧PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD BRINGS A FULL WATER BOTTLE TO CLASS, they’re gonna need it!

I cant wait to see everyone on the mats. Let’s embrace the challenge, stay proactive, and keep moving one step closer to our goals!🥋👊
