āš ļø 🚧 Travel Update – Please Allow Extra Time

There are currently roadworks and temporary traffic lights on Stainland Road near Newbank Garden Centre (pink arrow), causing significant delays.

If you’re travelling for your appointment from Halifax or Copley towards West Vale & Greetland, please allow extra time for your journey. Likewise, if you have somewhere to be after your appointment, please be aware that traffic delays may affect your onward travel.

ā—ļøAppointments cannot be extended if you arrive late, and this may significantly impact the treatment or service you receive.

ā—ļøNo-shows, cancellations, or appointment changes made with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full appointment price.

ā€¼ļø This is my standard policy and forms part of the booking terms agreed to when making an appointment. No exceptions will be made.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, Emma- SEAL Fitness

ā˜€ļøHope you had a lovely sunny bank holiday weekend?

šŸŽ My ā€˜Recommended Kit’ has now moved from Kit.Co to an Amazon store.

Now, it does frustrate me that Jeff Bezos has the monopoly, unfortunately these types of products cannot be purchased from small businesses like mine otherwise I would send you to them.

*I do earn a very small commission* from products that are purchased via these links. I am talking pennies rather than ££s, but Jeff can spare them for little old me I’m sure?

It’s tough right now to run a small business, so this is a supplemental income to help. Because in the words of Tesco (another giant šŸ™„) …. Every little helps!

I only recommend what I feel is genuinely a good product & worth buying to help with your health & wellness. These are not products to buy for the sake of it.
More products will be added as & when I think there’s something worth adding, so keep your eyes peeled šŸ‘€

You can find the link on my website at anytime https://www.seal-fitness.co.uk under ā€˜resources’

This link takes you direct to the ā€˜shop front’

Today, a long-time friend and professional massage therapist had an upsetting experience with a new male client attending her business. Sadly, this is now the second time this year she has been subjected to inappropriate behaviour from a man whilst simply trying to do her job professionally.

The first incident was reported to the police. The individual was interviewed five weeks later, at a time and place convenient to him, and the matter went no further after he claimed there had been a ā€œlanguage barrierā€ misunderstanding. There was no misunderstanding.

Following today’s incident, she has chosen not to report it. Not because it was acceptable, but because her previous experience left her feeling unsupported and discouraged from seeking help again.

As a result, she has now made the difficult decision to stop taking on new male clients in an effort to protect herself from future situations. That means potentially losing 50% of her client base and being unable to help many genuine, respectful men who would never behave this way.

This post is NOT about blaming any ethnicity, the police, or all men. It is NOT linked to politics or recent local elections. It is about highlighting the reality that many professional women working alone in small businesses can face from a small minority of individuals — and the lasting impact it has on their safety, confidence, wellbeing, and livelihood.

No woman should feel unsafe whilst simply going to work.

I can’t shout about this enough!!!

I’m not just here for the elite athlete, I’m here for the person struggling to walk to the bus stop, the ones that can’t lift the shopping bags, the ones with a little ni**le that’s keeping them awake at night, the ones who have back pain, the ones that are getting more active, the ones who need an operation or are recovering from one, the ones who have been diagnosed with an MSK condition, the ones with manual jobs, the ones doing something spectacularly tough for charity, the new mums, the young aspiring athlete. It goes on!

Over the past two days, I’ve had the opportunity to learn alongside an amazing group of people—GPs, therapists, physiotherapists, coaches, and individuals who truly understand the impact of chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and fatigue.

The masterclass with Howard Schubiner MD has given me a deeper insight into neuroplastic pain and the growing research in this area.

One of the most powerful parts of the event was practicing different approaches, including:
• Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT)
• Emotional Awareness & Expression Therapy (EAET)
• Somatic tracking

It was an emotional and inspiring experience, and I’m still taking time to reflect on everything I’ve learned.

What stands out most is the strength of this growing community—people dedicated to helping others live pain-free lives without relying on medication or being dismissed.

Thank you to everyone involved in organising such a fantastic event.

Yesterday I took part in the first session of the Fearless: Women’s Leadership Programme — and wow, what a start.

We focused on values, and it really made me reflect on something I navigate every day: balance.

Balancing family and career isn’t always easy, and if I’m honest, it often comes with a bit of ā€œmum guilt.ā€ Working in sport can mean long hours, time away, and missing moments with the people who matter most. It’s one of the reasons I stepped back from working directly with a team.

But I’ll be honest… I really miss it.

Collaboration is a huge value of mine — being part of a team, sharing ideas, and learning from others. As a sole trader, that’s something I don’t always get in the same way.

So being surrounded (virtually!) by 250 incredible women from all areas of sport across the world yesterday was genuinely inspiring. I’m so glad I pushed myself to apply for this programme with Women’s Sport Collective.

Lots to work on before the next session… but first, I’m off for two days of learning all about mind-body medicine with a global expert in neuroplastic pain.

Excited to share more soon!

Six weeks ago, I stepped away from Instagram and Facebook on both personal & professional accounts.

I needed a break from the constant stream of sponsored ads, AI-generated content, and negative news. I’ll admit, I was concerned it might impact my business.

But it hasn’t.

Over the past 8 months, I’ve been tracking where my new business comes from:
• 54% through referrals and recommendations
• Just 6% from social media

Now, that could be down to the fact I haven’t invested heavily in social media — no big time commitment or budget. And I do believe you get out what you put in.

But I also think there’s something else at play.

There’s a lot of noise. A lot of saturation. And if we’re honest, how often are we really paying attention while scrolling?

In these past six weeks, I’ve redirected that time and energy into things that actually matter:
• Focusing on my health
• Reading more
• Listening to podcasts
• Investing in my personal and professional development
• Spending more time outdoors (walking the dog mainly!)
• Connecting with friends properly — in person and on the phone
• Being more present with my family
• Delivering a better service to my clients because I’m more focused

Of course, I’ve missed a few things — my husband’s photography on Instagram, and a lovely Mother’s Day post from my youngest daughter.

But overall, stepping away hasn’t had a negative impact on my life. If anything, it’s improved it.

Will I come back? Here I am — but on my terms. Maybe once a week. And definitely without the apps on my phone.

Sometimes, less really is more.
