GRAND FINAL | A STATEMENT FROM CAPTAIN ANNA SIMPSON

Ahead of this weekend’s Grand Final, Halifax Panthers Women captain Anna Simpson reflects on the journey the team has been on this season, from struggling to build a squad just weeks before the season began to reaching the Grand Final unbeaten.

“Two weeks before this season began, we were struggling to get players signed on. We were worried we wouldn’t be able to fulfil our fixtures and that we might have to call time on the season before it had even started.

Fast forward to now and we have 26+ players available every week, with new players already training with us and preparing for next season.

Not only have we fulfilled every fixture, but we have finished the season unbeaten, which isn’t something many teams can say.

Together, we have created a team and an environment that people genuinely want to be a part of. I am incredibly proud of every single person who has played a part in what we have built this season.

I am honoured and privileged to be leading the girls out for the Grand Final this weekend.

We know exactly what awaits us. It’s going to be tough. It’s going to be physical. But we didn’t come this far just to come this far.

We’ve earned our place in this final and I have every faith that every player on that pitch will give everything they have and get that final job done.”

GRAND FINAL | A STATEMENT FROM HEAD COACH MIKEY OTTY

Ahead of this weekend’s Grand Final, Halifax Panthers Women head coach Mikey Otty reflects on the journey this group has been on, the work that has gone into rebuilding the squad and the challenge that lies ahead.

Although many people will look at our stats this season and think it has been easy for us, it really hasn’t.

At the start of the season we were in a total rebuild. That started with the staff within the club, then the coaching staff and finally the playing squad. We had to speak to players about staying on board following a difficult season previously, while also recruiting new players and building something from the ground up.

We are now a team where everyone, from top to bottom, has completely bought into what we are trying to achieve. I can confidently say this is the strongest Halifax team there has been in at least four years.

To go an entire season unbeaten at any level is a huge achievement. I’m incredibly proud of what the ladies have achieved, especially conceding just 38 points throughout the whole season.

We have also been the best attacking and defending team across all leagues in the women’s game in the country, which shows just how much work this group has put in throughout the season.

I wish our opponents all the very best for the weekend. It is fitting that the top two teams have made the final and for us, it’s about finishing what we set out to do at the start of the season and getting the job done.

This group of players deserve to be exactly where they are. Now it’s about taking that final step.

One more round. One more job to do.

🏆 COUNTDOWN TO THE FINAL 🏆

One game left.

After a perfect regular season with 14 wins from 14 the Panthers Women have now reached the biggest game of the season.

The play-off semi-final against Wigan St Jude’s was always going to be another test despite the Panthers beating them 46-0 in the final league game. The ladies delivered when it mattered most with a huge 68-0 win to book their place in the final.

Now it’s Ashton Bears.

The Panthers have been outstanding throughout the season. Unbeaten in the regular season, conceding just 38 points across 14 league games and then backing it up in the semi-final when the pressure was on.

All the hard work has brought the team here.

80 minutes stand between the Panthers and the trophy.

Now we need everyone behind them.
