What a fantastic result and a hugely proud day for everyone connected with Eddlewood Football Club.

We travelled to Cliftonhill knowing the size of the challenge ahead of us. Albion Rovers are a club with a proud history in Scottish football, playing several levels above us, and we knew it was going to be a massive ask.

But we made it clear to the players that we weren't going there simply to make up the numbers. We were going there to compete, believe in ourselves and give everything we had to progress.

Following last week's disappointing defeat to Lesmahagow, we were looking for a reaction, and I couldn't have asked for a better response.

From the first whistle, I thought the boys were absolutely outstanding. Their attitude, work rate, discipline and desire to work for each other were everything we ask for as a management team.

Every single player deserves enormous credit. We had a game plan, the boys believed in it and carried it out exceptionally well.

Albion were reduced to ten men in the first half, but we still had a job to do. We had to remain patient, stay focused and maintain our discipline, and I thought the players handled the occasion brilliantly.

As the game entered the closing stages, the belief never disappeared, and when Nicky scored the winner in the 85th minute, it was a fantastic moment for everyone involved.

What pleased me most was the character the players showed after last week's disappointment. It's how you respond to setbacks that tells you a lot about a group, and every single one of them stood up and showed exactly what they're capable of.

To beat a club several levels above us, away from home, while keeping a clean sheet is a tremendous achievement.

A massive thank you to everyone who travelled to Cliftonhill to support us. Your backing was fantastic, and I hope we gave you a day to remember.

We're now into the last 32 of the South Challenge Cup, which is a fantastic achievement for the club.

Our attention now turns to another cup challenge as we travel to Aberdeen to face Cutler in the Scottish Junior Cup.

We'll enjoy this result, but we won't get carried away. There's still plenty of hard work ahead.

I'm immensely proud of every single player. They were outstanding and thoroughly deserved their moment.

A difficult afternoon for the team, but Keane put in a strong performance throughout.

MANAGER’S MATCH REPORT

Lesmahagow Juniors 6–0 Eddlewood

Yesterday was a really disappointing afternoon for us and there’s no getting away from that. When you lose a game 6–0, you have to take it on the chin.

We got off to the worst possible start, conceding after six minutes, and struggled to get a foothold in the game early on.

I also have to take responsibility for that. Looking back, I got the shape wrong from the start and that put us on the back foot. We made an early change to try and correct it and, after their second goal, I thought we settled down and competed better for the remainder of the first half.

We went in 2–0 down and the message at half-time was that the next goal was massive.

Unfortunately, they got the third ten minutes into the second half and from there the game started to get away from us. The fourth came from the penalty spot and they added another shortly afterwards. At that stage it was about trying to stay together and see the game out, but Lesmahagow were well on top and added a sixth late on.

There’s no benefit in looking for excuses. I’ll take my share of responsibility for the result and, as a group, we know we weren’t at the level we expect from ourselves. Lesmahagow were deserved winners on the day.

One result doesn’t undo the work these boys have put in or the progress we’ve made. We’ve had some very good performances this season and I’ve got every confidence in this group. Yesterday wasn’t at the level we expect from ourselves, but we’ll learn from it and move on together.

Next week we face Albion Rovers, which is a massive game for everyone at the club. There won’t be any need to motivate the players for that one. It’s exactly the type of game you want after a result like yesterday and we’ll be looking for a big reaction.

Congratulations to Lesmahagow and all the best to them in the next round.

Finally, a massive thank you to everyone who came along and supported us yesterday. Your support is always appreciated, especially on difficult afternoons like that.

We hope to see as many of you as possible again next week for the Albion Rovers game. It’s a massive occasion for the club and your backing will mean a lot to the players and everyone involved.
