🤔 ARE THUMB LOOPS NEEDED? 🤔

Do wrist wraps need thumb loops? No... some don't have one at all.

That little loop you see on many wrist wraps is useful, but it isn't actually what provides the wrist support.

⚪ Helps you get started: The loop anchors the wrap while you pull it around your wrist.

🟠 The wrap does the work: It's the tension and support around your wrist that you're actually looking for.

🔵 Not essential: Our Team Industry 16" Wrist Wraps don't even use a thumb loop, while other options from RDX do. Both approaches can work perfectly well.

If your wraps have a thumb loop, you can use it to help position and tighten the wrap. Once everything is secure, the support is coming from the wrap itself, not from having your thumb attached to it.

And if you prefer not having a loop at all, that's exactly why we stock different styles rather than pretending there is only one "correct" option.

🍑 HIP THRUST PAD FOR SQUATS? 🍑

Can a hip thrust pad be used for squats? Yes... but we wouldn't recommend it.

A hip thrust pad is normally much thicker in diameter than a proper squat pad. That extra thickness is great when you're protecting your hips during heavy thrusts, but on your back it can cause problems.

⚪ Too much thickness: The pad creates a bigger gap between the bar and your back.

🟠 Changes bar position: That extra distance can push the bar away from where it would naturally sit during a squat.

🔵 Affects bar path: Once the bar is sitting further away from your body, it can make it harder to keep a stable bar path throughout the movement.

So yes, you could put a hip thrust pad on the bar and squat with it. But just because something fits doesn't mean it's the right tool for the job.

For hip thrusts, the extra thickness is exactly what you want. For squats, we'd choose something much slimmer and designed specifically to sit across the back.

👀 STRAPS FOR DUMBBELLS? 👀

Can deadlift straps be used with dumbbells? Yes, and much more as well.

Despite the name, "Deadlift" straps can be used with dumbbells too, especially when your grip starts giving up before the muscles you're actually trying to train.

⚪ Easy to use: Wrap them around a dumbbell handle just like you would a barbell.

🟠 Grip support: They can help when your hands are cutting a set short.

🔵 Great for pulling: Think heavier dumbbell rows, shrugs and similar exercises.

Genuinely though some called them Deadlift Strips, they are generally just "LIFTING" Straps, meaning they are perfect for pulling event, or pulling machine you might use in the gym and you find that Grip is the limiting factor.

We would always recommend you build your grip and get comfortable with the movements first. But as the weights get heavier, they're a really handy bit of kit to have in your gym bag.

Can yoga socks be used for deadlifts?Yes... and here's why.

If you like deadlifting in something flat, light and close to barefoot, grippy yoga socks can actually work surprisingly well.

⚪ Flat and lightweight: No thick cushioning underneath your feet.

🟠 Extra grip: The silicone grip underneath helps stop your feet sliding around.

🔵 Close to barefoot: You can feel the floor and stay planted through the lift.

They're designed for yoga, Pilates and studio training, but that doesn't mean that's all they're useful for.

Just remember to check your gym's footwear rules before training in them.

The markings on the Myga Extra Large Yoga Alignment Mat are there to help you understand where your hands and feet are positioned as you move. That can make an alignment mat particularly useful when you're learning.

Instead of wondering whether you're roughly in the right place, you've got visual reference points underneath you.

This one is also larger than a standard yoga mat at approximately 68cm wide and 195cm long, with 6mm cushioning and a grippy surface.

So if you want a bit more room, more cushioning and some help with positioning, this is where spending a little more than you would on a basic mat starts to make sense.

If you're completely new and simply need something inexpensive to exercise on, you don't necessarily need an alignment mat.
