Spirit Yachts designs & builds modern classic yachts for performance racing or leisure cruising

20/08/2026

A new Spirit is born...

Yesterday, we rolled over the hull of the new Spirit C78 cruising yacht, ready for her interior fit out to begin.

The C78 is designed for cruising in the Mediterranean and bluewater adventures, delivering quality sailing as well as a luxury guest experience ⛵️💫

The wooden hull of a Spirit is built 'upside down' before being turned 180 degrees in mid-air by two cranes. Once she is the right way up, the yacht moves back inside the yard ready for our talented team of craftsmen and women to bring the yacht to life with interior structure and custom joinery.

Finishing touches 💫

The first Spirit P50 Sport is entering her final phase before she is unveiled this summer…

A quality finish relies on meticulous preparation and skilled application.

Once the surface of the wood and the surrounding area is cleaned and ready, the team applies up to 14 coats of Awlwood, a premium wood finish. Throughout the process, the thickness of the varnish is measured using an ultrasonic gauge to ensure accuracy. Before the final coat is applied, the team sands the surface to give a deeper gloss and a smooth finish.

This level of precision delivers the quality, durable finish Spirit is renowned for, allowing the beauty of the wood to speak for itself 🤎 🌲

Vision to vessel…

Ahead of the launch of the new Spirit P50 this summer, we share an insight into her design and development.

Inspired by a combination of classic yacht lines, organic shapes and textures, and automotive design, Spirit’s Lead Designer Tom Smith starts with a sketch ✍️

These hand drawings develop into computer generated visuals and animations to bring the vessel to life. Once the exterior form is finalised, attentions turn to the interior. How will it feel to be onboard?

Experiences and emotions balanced with practicalities and a luxury guest experience drive the decisions behind materials, lighting, textures, and form.

Created to bring uncompromised joy, the P50 Sport will grace the water for the first time this summer. Watch this space for more exclusive details… 👀

It starts with a ring frame...

The build of every Spirit yacht, sail or motor, begins with handcrafted ring frames 🌲

The frames are made from thin lengths of Sipo Mahogany timber, laminated (or glued) together and shaped precisely over full-size, computer-generated drawings. Each frame is unique 💫

Once complete, the ring frames are set up on a strongback structure to form the shape of the hull. The backbone of the yacht, a single length of timber running from bow to stern, is then fixed into place. This is the skeleton of the yacht and from here she evolves like an organism slowly growing into a living creature 🐋
