Markfield 10K 2026 - Final Details
Ahead of the race on Sunday 27th September, we have a few final details to share. Please take the time to read and familiarise yourself with the information to ensure a smooth race for all 😊
The race starts at 09:00am at South Charnwood High School, Broad Lane, Markfield LE67 9TB. The car park will be closed at 08:30am, please ensure you are on site before this time otherwise you will not be able to race.
Road Closures
Two roads will be closed for the safety of runners, Markfield Lane and Reservoir Road. Markfield Lane will be closed from 08:00am – you will be unable to approach the school from Thornton after this time. Please arrive via Grassy Lane from Markfield or from Elliots Lane from Stanton under Bardon after 8am.

Car Parking
Parking is kindly provided by South Charnwood High School and is very restricted. Please, please car share where possible (min 3 people).
Car parking only at the school grounds via the bus car park entrance - No parking on surrounding area or roads of the race. The car park will be closed at 08:30am sharp and reopens at 10:30am once all runners are safely finished.
There will be signs to follow on race day and also marshals advising where the parking is. Please do walk/cycle if you can. Due to limited car parking, only runners, no spectators to park at the school.
Registration
Registration will be on a club-by-club basis, starting at 07:45am at the Sports Hall, one representative from each club to collect numbers (with chips attached) from the race registration desk.
Club Tents
There is plenty of space on the school field for clubs to pitch up their tents.
Toilets
*No urinating on the school grounds*
There are plenty of toilets available on the school grounds with additional urinals provided. Anyone urinating on school grounds will be disqualified. This is a zero-tolerance policy.
As the race is being held on school grounds, no dogs are allowed.
Headphones
Strictly prohibited for safety reasons, including bone conduction headphones. Failure to comply will result in disqualification.
Route

The route is an undulating single lap road race through the villages of Markfield and Thornton, passing the picturesque reservoir. This is a left turn only course and will be signed and supported with marshals along the course. Water will be provided at the 6km point of the course and post-race. Please KEEP LEFT at all times, but particularly along Main Street, Thornton - where there are parked car hazards and Thornton Lane /Ratby Lane - where cars will be travelling in both directions, possibly at fast speeds despite our attempt to speed restrict the road to 30mph.
The school field or school site to be used to warm up / cool down. You may also use the left side of Markfield Lane as you exit the school AFTER 8am when the road has been closed.
There is a 90 minute cutoff to complete the race, due to the need to reopen the roads and the car park at 10:30 am.
End of Race
Prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd & 3rd male & female, 1st under 23 yrs male & female, and for 1st in each 10-year vet category from 40 up. Approx time of 10am.
All runners will receive some freebies at the finish!!!
There is a cake stall in the sports hall, all proceeds will be going to the Markfield community library. Please bring cash, we are hoping to have a sum up machine working also.
There will be a catering van selling hot drinks and snacks on the school field.
Please place all empty plastic water bottles and drink cans from the finish into the ORANGE recycling bags that will be available at the school site, to try and make our race as green as possible. Black bins will be around the school for other rubbish. Please leave the school tidy!
