Help Make a Difference at Your Golf Club?

We’re looking for a number of volunteers tomorrow morning at 8.30am to help our greens staff repair divots across the fairways now that the weather has changed.

It’s a great opportunity to lend a hand and help keep our course in the best possible condition.

If you can spare some time, please join me and others in Reception at 9am.

Many hands make light work — and your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

CAPTAIN'S CHARITY DAY - SUNDAY 27th SEPTEMBER

A Massive Thank You from Alan and Tracy! 💙

We wanted to share our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported our charity day in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. It was an incredible day, and we couldn’t have done it without your amazing generosity.

A special thank you goes out to our 25 fantastic sponsors who generously donated money to sponsor a hole, the green, the river, and the 19th! Thank you to Mark Spencer helping us both in collecting the sponsorship money.

We are also incredibly grateful to the 46 wonderful guests who came along to play, joined us for the buffet, and took part in our raffle and fun auction. It was a fabulous evening filled with great company and high spirits. Thank you Dean Smith for stepping up on the microphone as our auctioneer.

WE RASIED AN INCREDIBLE £3593.00

Thank you all again for standing with us to support such a vital cause, "Together we have helped everyone living with dementia"

Best wishes,
Alan & Tracy 💙

Autumn Is Calling: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Join Shortlands Golf Club

With summer drawing to a close and autumn beginning to take hold, there has never been a better time to discover the pleasures of golf, make new friends and enjoy everything that membership of Shortlands Golf Club has to offer.

As the leaves begin to turn and the days gradually grow shorter, many golfers might be tempted to put their clubs away until spring. But for those who love the game, autumn and winter can be among the most rewarding times to get out onto the course. The fairways are quieter, the scenery takes on a new character, and there is something particularly satisfying about enjoying a round of golf in the crisp autumn air.

For anyone considering joining a golf club, this time of year offers the perfect opportunity to take that first step. Rather than waiting until spring, new members can begin enjoying their golf straight away, meet fellow golfers, develop their skills and become part of a welcoming club community before the new season arrives.

At Shortlands Golf Club, there are plenty of reasons to make that move.

Golf on Your Terms

One of the great advantages of Shortlands Golf Club is its challenging nine-hole course, which offers a flexible approach to playing golf.

We all lead increasingly busy lives, with work, family commitments and other responsibilities competing for our time. Finding several hours for a full round of golf is not always easy. At Shortlands, however, players have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of holes to suit their available time.

Whether you have time for a quick round, want to squeeze in some practice after work or can dedicate more time to a longer golfing session, the course offers a convenient way to keep playing and enjoying the game.

For golfers who want to maintain their enthusiasm throughout the colder months, that flexibility can make all the difference.

Make New Friends and Become Part of the Club

Joining a golf club is about much more than simply having somewhere to play. It is an opportunity to become part of a community, meet like-minded people and build friendships that can last for years.

At Shortlands, members can enjoy the social side of golf alongside their time on the course. From meeting fellow golfers and discovering new playing partners to getting involved in competitions and club activities, there are plenty of opportunities to make the most of membership.

For those new to the area, returning to golf after a break or simply looking to expand their social circle, joining a club can open the door to a whole new network of friends.

And why wait until spring to start making those connections?

Autumn provides an ideal opportunity to settle into club life, get to know other members and arrive at the start of the new golfing season already feeling at home.

Hone Your Skills Before Spring Arrives

The colder months can also provide an excellent opportunity to work on your game.

With a little dedication and regular practice, autumn and winter can be a valuable period for developing consistency, improving confidence and addressing those frustrating areas of your game that have been holding you back.

Whether you are a seasoned golfer looking to sharpen your short game, a returning player hoping to rediscover your form or a relative newcomer keen to develop your skills, Shortlands offers an enjoyable setting in which to continue your golfing journey.

And when spring finally arrives, you will already have the benefit of months of additional experience behind you.

A Challenging Course with Plenty to Enjoy

Shortlands Golf Club's nine-hole course offers an enjoyable challenge for golfers of differing abilities.

A shorter course does not mean a less rewarding golfing experience. With its own character and challenges, Shortlands provides members with an opportunity to test their skills, work on their course management and enjoy a satisfying round without necessarily having to commit an entire morning or afternoon.

For busy golfers, that combination of challenge and convenience is particularly appealing.

It also makes the club an attractive option for those who want to enjoy golf more frequently, fitting their rounds around the demands of everyday life.

No Joining Fee – And Limited Opportunities Remaining

For anyone who has been thinking about joining a golf club, there is another compelling reason to consider Shortlands.

There is no joining fee.

With a limited number of membership opportunities still remaining, now is an excellent time to find out more about becoming part of the Shortlands Golf Club community.

Whether you are an experienced golfer searching for a new club, someone returning to the game after a break or a player looking to take their first steps towards regular golf, Shortlands offers an inviting environment in which to enjoy the sport.

Golf doesn't have to stop when summer ends. In many ways, autumn is the beginning of another wonderful chapter in the golfing calendar.

With no joining fee and only a limited number of membership opportunities remaining, there is every reason to make this autumn the season you join.

Shortlands Golf Club – your golf, your schedule, your club.

Ladies’ Autumn Meeting – 15th September

The Ladies enjoyed a fabulous day of golf for our Autumn Meeting, with plenty of competition, some excellent scores and, most importantly, a thoroughly enjoyable day both on and off the course.

The morning saw the 18-hole and 9-hole Medal competitions, followed by an afternoon of Greensomes.

Congratulations to Lee Morris, winner of the 18-hole Medal and the Shirley Coverdale Trophy, with a fantastic net 68. It couldn’t have been much closer, with Lee winning on countback from Paulette, who also returned an excellent net 68. Kerry Williams finished a very close third with a net 69.

The Front 9 prize went to Jenny, with Natalie taking the Back 9 prize.

In the 9-hole Medal, congratulations to Sue Chapman, who produced a great score of net 32 to take the honours.

There were plenty of other prizes to celebrate throughout the day, including Christine M and Breda, who won the afternoon Greensomes competition, while Maggie proved that the putter was behaving beautifully, recording the lowest number of putts with just 28!

Congratulations to all our winners and everyone who took part. A fabulous day of golf, friendly competition and great company – just what our Ladies’ Meetings are all about.

Thank you all for making the day so special. A HUGE thank you to Maggie and Bev for all your work behind the scenes with H&C. To Phil Charnley for ball spotting on the 4th.

Most golfers will happily praise a perfectly prepared green, immaculate fairway or beautifully presented golf course. But how often do we stop to thank the people responsible for making it happen?

Tuesday, September 8 marks International Thank A Greenkeeper Day, with BIGGA encouraging golfers, golf clubs and the wider industry to recognise the professionals whose skill, dedication and hard work keep courses around the world in playing condition.

And today's greenkeeper is far more than someone who simply cuts grass.

The modern greenkeeping profession encompasses agronomy, environmental management, team leadership, budgeting and increasingly sophisticated technology. Data analytics, autonomous machinery, precision irrigation and sustainable course-management practices are all becoming part of the modern greenkeeper's toolkit.

Behind the scenes, greenkeepers are also dealing with increasingly challenging weather conditions, water management, changing environmental requirements and the constant demand to provide golfers with the best possible playing surfaces.

Golf clubs are being encouraged to put their greenkeeping teams in the spotlight—introducing them to members, offering behind-the-scenes glimpses of their work or simply taking the time to organise a breakfast or lunch as a gesture of appreciation.

For golfers, it can be even simpler.

Say thank you.

Take a moment on September 8 to speak to your greenkeeper, share a message on social media or recognise the team whose work often goes unnoticed but is fundamental to every round of golf.

Because behind every great golf course is a great greenkeeping team.

No greenkeeper. No golf course.

PAST LADY CAPTAINS’ DAY AT SHORTLANDS

Yesterday we welcomed back our wonderful Past Lady Captains for the annual PLC Day competition – a fantastic occasion bringing together some of the ladies who have played such an important part in the history and life of Shortlands Golf Club.

There was plenty of great golf, good humour and, no doubt, a little friendly competition along the way!

Following the golf, everyone gathered for a lovely dinner, providing the perfect opportunity to catch up, share memories and celebrate the special bond that exists between our Past Lady Captains.

Congratulations to this year’s PLC Day winner, Gail Gulvin!

A huge thank you to everyone who took part and helped make it such an enjoyable day. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces back at Shortlands.
