Blackhorse Workshop is an open-access workshop where you can come to use a very wide range of wood a

Blackhorse Workshop is a new kind of public building for making, mending and learning located in Walthamstow, east London. In the spirit of the public library the workshop will be a place for shared knowledge, with tools, machinery and skilled technicians in place of books, desks and librarians. The workshop has been running an initial programme of talks, classes and events since November 2013 before opening fully on 1st February 2014. The workshop will open its doors officially on Wednesday 22nd January from 4-9pm with a range of activities for all ages, food tasting, music and a chance to sign up for discounted memberships. A range of affordable membership packages will cater for everyone, from commercial and professional makers, to the occasional user. There will also be a number of affordable private studios available for long-term tenancy. The programme of public classes, talks and events will further encourage the sharing of knowledge and skills. The building has been under construction for the past six months, with Assemble working with local artists, businesses, community organisations and volunteers during the build. A collaboration with graphic designers Europa has resulted in the graphic identity for the workshop, covering the printed and online material as well as the workshop’s interior.

Blackhorse Workshop (BHW) is looking for a well organised technician to work with our Programmes team, to ensure our workshop and learning spaces are always stocked and well prepared for our courses, youth programme and delivery of events.

The focus of this role is preparation and maintenance of materials, consumables and tools for our programmes (evening and weekend courses, Schools & Youth Programme and occasional community events). This person needs to be well organised, thorough and proactive, and able to implement effective systems of materials management.

Extensive experience as a Wood or Metal Technician is not required, as training will be provided!

THANKS FOR COMING!!!

Just a week ago, the Blackhorse Collective Creative Enterprise Zone was buzzing as we hosted the first ever Blackhorse Creates as part of London Design Festival 2026 and Open House Festival. Bringing together makers, artists, designers and creative businesses for workshops, panel talks and behind-the-scenes looks.

Thanks to all our 40+ makers who showed their work over the weekend, to everyone (over 800 of you!!!) who came along to our open studios, to the 6 musicians and DJs that provided the soundtrack (if you missed it see link in bio to hear ’s set), Chunk Provisions ice cream who fed the crowd with 80 litres of ice cream, 11 artists who shared participatory artworks, to our 10 partner venues that offered their spaces for activities and shout out to anyone who provided school and college tours of their workspaces.
