It was a pleasure to attend a Swim Safe event at Royal Victoria Docks alongside the Mayor of Newham and local MP James Asser. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Over the past six weeks, hundreds of children have taken part in free Swim Safe lessons as part of the Summer Splash pop-up season, gaining essential skills and confidence to stay safe in and around the water.๐Ÿ›Ÿ๐Ÿ’™

It's been fantastic to see the positive impact of the programme, and we're looking forward to welcoming even more families when Swim Safe returns in Summer 2027. โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

๐ŸŠ๐ŸšฉOpen water can be unpredictable, which is why understanding how to stay safe is so important.

Oliver, Jacob and Harry have created this video to share key water safety messages that could help save lives. Whether you're heading to the beach, a lake or another open water location, taking a few minutes to learn about the risks and how to respond in an emergency could make all the difference.๐Ÿ’งAs well as helping to spread awareness of water safety, they are also raising money for RNLI Cleethorpes. ๐Ÿ’™

Please take a moment to watch their video and help share these important water safety messages with family and friends. Together, we can help more people stay safe around the water. ๐ŸŒŠ

More than a quarter of children leave primary school unable to swim 25m, while a third cannot tread water or float. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Speaking on BBC Breakfast, Swim England's Head of Competency, Jenny McAneny-Vincent, highlights the challenges facing school swimming and why action is needed to help more children develop vital water safety skills.

Schools continue to work hard under increasing pressures, but too many children are still missing out on the opportunity to learn to swim and stay safe around water.

Although swimming and water safety have been a national curriculum requirement for more than 30 years, significant inequalities in access remain. The loss of hundreds of swimming pools has also made it more difficult for many communities to access lessons.

๐Ÿ“š As part of the national curriculum review, we're calling on the Government to give swimming and water safety a stronger focus within the curriculum, improve accountability for delivery and invest in the facilities needed to help every child learn this life-saving skill.

๐Ÿ’™ Every child deserves the opportunity to be safe and confident in the water.

โ€œItโ€™s a life skill more than a sportโ€, says silver and bronze medal winner, Tom Dean ๐Ÿ’ช

The Swim England Learn to Swim Programme helps children build confidence, learn vital water safety skills and enjoy being active in the water.
