We are proud to say that our Sports Development Officer, Damian Ng, has been recognised for his dedication to disability sport during Lockdown. Throughout Lockdown, Damian delivered twice-weekly fitness sessions to our members as a volunteer, as well as giving them the opportunity to meet and chat in his Zoom sessions.

We’re delighted to announce our ‘Berkshire Lockdown Physical Activity Heroes’ with inspirational stories of individuals and organisations helping Berkshire to stay active during the pandemic.

Ascot Racecourse is a great supporter of SportsAble, providing us with regular opportunities for bucket collections. Despite this year's Lockdown preventing us from undertaking our usual collections, we were honoured to have a race named after us at last weekend's August Raceday: The SportsAble Handicap Stakes.

SportsAble was due to restart at the Magnet Leisure Centre in July, but sadly it was vandalised during Lockdown and not viable to reopen. We are now waiting for the new Braywick Centre to open in mid September.

Sharon and Chris have made 3 visits during the construction to see if the suggestions Chris made to the architects have been achieved. And YES! There is a lift to allow swimmers to be gently lowered into the water, either from standing holding a rail or seated in an aqua wheelchair. Permanent sloping steps with a handrail either side will provide good support and there are a variety of options for changing including a Changing Places room with hoist and bed. Another full-size room has a shower and toilet plus there are several with wider doors and extra deep benches. There are also several private showers. Truly a pool for the 21st Century.

Who can remember Damian's incredible 2.6 Challenge back in April? Apparently it was one of LimbPower most successful initiatives for engaging disabled people during Lockdown. Now they want to repeat the success with a series of three challenges; the first one runs from 15th August to 15th September. Participants choose their own targets and goals to suit their ability, mobility, circumstances and lifestyle. They then have one month to achieve their target. For the first challenge participants receive a bronze medal on completion. For two challenges they receive a silver medal and for taking part in all three challenges they receive a gold medal and a challenge t-shirt.
