On tonight's episode of 60 minutes, we shall be finding out who left it until the last moment to enter NECL Summer Series Round 4, which takes place at Hetton Country Park on Sunday 23rd August.
Arguably the best cycle circuit north of the M62 there is elevation and technical corners around the lakeside circuit.
If you still fancy the challenge, then online entry only is here - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/335517/North-East-Crit-League-Summer-Series---Round-4
If you're not racing, but want to get up close to the action, then grab a flag & high-viz and volunteer to marshal a race or 3....
Thanks, Graham.

Hi All,
Back in front of the laptop so I can do the usual "It's Race Week !!" posting.
Anyone who entered Round 4 between last Thursday and Today has now been accepted. I have also sent the registered riders another reminder that the event takes place at HETTON COUNTRY PARK, HOUGHTON LE SPRING, DH5 0RH *NOT* Middlesbrough as stated on the Event Entry page.
I have requested the updates to the venue on BC Events but there is a time delay.....
I've given myself a tough job to get Hetton sorted at such short notice but I'm doing my best to give you riders the best racing experience I can.
Some of the usual volunteer squad are unavailable so I need the riders and/or their entourage to help out with marshal and crossing point duties. There are 9 positions to be covered across all 3 races & course practice..... I've checked with Carol Vorderman and that's 36 separate opportunities to get involved.
If you are in Race 1, could you stay back and marshal race 2? If you are in Race 2, could you arrive early and marshal Race 1 or stay back and marshal Race 3? Rider in Race 3, could you arrive early and marshal Race 2 or stay back and help pack the course away?
I appreciate it's slightly unorthodox to be so direct in asking the riders for help, but without marshals, the riders can't race.....
I've you haven't entered yet, you have until 23:55 on Thursday night - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/335517/North-East-Crit-League-Summer-Series---Round-4
We currently have:
- 7 x Open 3/4.
- 9 x Women E123 + Cat 4 (If we get to 10, I'll sell my soul to Manchester and merge the races for full points).
- 15 x Open E123.
Thanks, Graham.

Morning All,
I arrived home from Junior Tour of the Mendips at 1:30 this morning, so I'll catch up on admin (entries & messages) tonight...... 💤

The change of venue request is submitted to BC.
I'll share the marshall plan so all you lovely people can choose your marshall point.
Thanks, Graham.

Well, things are ticking along nicely.
I have now emailed all the riders who have entered R4 advising of the change of venue.
Just waiting for BC to do their normal checks for the event permit, risk assessment etc and then the BC Event listing can be updated.
Today, I have also submitted the Permit application, risk assessment and Event listing for NECL Summer Series R5 "The Finale" which takes place on Friday 4th September at Middlesbrough. This is not yet live on BC Events but I will let you know the moment it is.
The Open E123 race should finish 5 mins before sunset so maybe we'll have some fireworks and bubbles on the podium to bring the NECL race season to a close......
I hope that as many riders as possible will support the final race at Middlesbrough, the format for R5 will be:
- Course practice 16:30 to 16:50 (20 mins).
- Youth U14 & U16 at 17:00 (40 mins).
- Open CAT 3/4 + Women's E123 + Cat 4 at 17:50 (50 mins).
- Open CAT E123 at 18:50 (55 mins).
Thanks, Graham.

Morning All,
Firstly, GOOD LUCK to any of our NECL'ers waiting for A-Level results today. Whatever the results, remember that a grade on a page doesn't define who you are and your skills and achievements outside the exam room, are just as important as you transition to University, Work, Gap Year or whatever you choose.
** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT **
I can confirm that NECL Summer Series Round 4 will now take place at Hetton Country Park, Down Pits Road, Houghton le Spring, DH5 0RH. The circuit is booked - just waiting for the legal bits to be signed.
I have submitted the change of venue request to BC so just waiting for due process and checks to be completed before the Event listing is updated.
However, I need some volunteers on the morning of the event to help with set up and during the day for marshalling. There are 9 marshall or crossing points to monitor because we are running a fast cycle race through a public park.... Unfortunately, only 1 volunteer stepped forward.....
If I get to Hetton at 4am, I can probably manage to set up the course by myself, but for the races, I simply can't be in 9 places at once. The commisaires will not allow the event to proceed if we don't have all 9 marshall points covered. It's a requirement of the risk assessment, which itself is a requirement of the legal right to occupy the Park for the event.
If you are racing Open Cat 3/4, we need you there a bit early to help with the set up.
If you are racing the Women's race, we need you there early to marshall the 1st race.
If you are racing the Open E123 race, I need you there early to marshal the Women's race.
If you are racing Open 3/4 or Women's race, I need you to stay back and marshal the Open E123 race.
I can offer a £5 discount voucher for the on-site Cafe, snacks and a rosy glow of satisfaction on Sunday evening that you were part of something awesome.
Thanks, Graham.

Morning All,
One more hurdle to clear before I can confirm Hetton, but the circuit is available and being booked for NECL Summer Series Round 4.
I will submit the change of venue application, incl new event permit application to BC today.
We are 'nearly' all systems GO for Hetton on the 23rd August!!
However, for this to work, I need 3 things from you guys:
1. Riders to enter the race - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/335517/North-East-Crit-League-Summer-Series---Round-4
2. Volunteers to help with set up on Sunday morning..... If I can get 6 volunteers from 7am to 10am, we can get the course set up in time for a coffee & bacon butty from the cafe!!
3. Volunteers to marshal the course during the races and keep the public & riders separate.... There are 9 marshal & pedestrian points to cover per race. I need your help to make this happen.
I'm also close to submitting the permit application for Round 5 on Friday 4th September so watch this space......
Thanks, Graham.
