That's a wrap on another season for our Ladies Sivewright team! ⛳️
Our ladies Sivewright team sadly lost 3–2 today, but that certainly didn't spoil the celebrations after another enjoyable year together. It's been a season full of friendship, great memories, and team spirit.
We're delighted to finish in the middle of the table and are already looking forward to next season, when we'll aim to achieve even more together.
Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout the season. Here's to an even better year ahead! ⛳️🎉

Whickham Seniors Section today held two trophy presentations.
Competition of the day was the Denis Smith Dozen.
With strong winds and ultra firm fairways Peter Graham came in a clear winner with a score of 66, followed by Captain Phil Coldron on 72 and John Scotland on 73. Peter was the first player to win the trophy which was introduced to record the achievements of the late Denis Smith who was Seniors Champion on no less than twelve occasions. The presentation was made by Alan Perry who proposed and sponsored the Claret Jug together with other Seniors Section members.
Second presentation was the Weightman Trophy won by David Robinson. This is probably the second most prestigious trophy after the Seniors Championship for the best of four from six rounds stroke play. Congratulations David on some very consistent performances this season. The cup was presented by Captain Phil Coldron.

⛳️Durham Seniors League Update⛳️
This week the Over-55s took on league leaders Ryton in what was our last realistic chance of winning Division A. Unfortunately, Ryton showed exactly why they're sitting at the top of the table.
Looking at the handicap system before we teed off, it was clear we had a tough task ahead, with most of our pairs giving away at least 10 shots to one of their opponents.
Ronnie Simpson and Michael Farrey got us off to the perfect start with a 4&2 victory.
Paul Haste and Les Frizzel were then beaten 3&2.
Darren Tench and Dave Smith put us back in front with an emphatic 6&5 win.
However, Barry Etherington and Phil Old suffered the same scoreline, going down 6&5.
With the match still hanging in the balance, Paul Hedley and I eventually lost 1 down on the final hole. Huge credit goes to Paul—after being 4 down through 12 holes, he inspired a great fightback. The highlight came on the 17th when he recorded his first-ever hole-in-one, holing out from 179 yards with a 7-iron to give us a real chance heading up the last.
Geordie Pratt and John Brown also narrowly lost, going down by just one hole.
The final score Whickham 4 Ryton 8.
With the league title now out of reach, we have one objective left—to make sure we remain in Division A. This season has certainly shown just how well we performed to achieve what we did last year.
Our final game of the season is away to Ramside on 24th August ⛳️🏌🏼♂️⛳️

Seniors Captains Day was supported today with an excellent turnout of 54 players. Unsurprisingly with little or no wind and firm conditions 16 competitors played to their handicaps or better. Coming out on top on count back was Bill Thompson on 39 points followed by Fred Levey and John Kershaw both with 39points.
Congratulations to Bill and also to Phil Coldron on his special day, enjoyed by all !!.

Durham County Golf Union Men’s Team Championship 2026 Runners Up 🥈
James Simpson, Darren McCaig and Bryan Levey saw Whickham to a fantastic 2nd placed finish in today’s County event at Beamish Park Golf Club. The lads finished on a combined 36-total of +14, congratulations to Bishop Auckland Golf Club who were winners and go on to represent Durham County in the National Finals.
This outcome means our team automatically qualify for the 2027 event.
A special mention to James Simpson who achieved the lowest 36-hole individual aggregate score. Superb play 👏👏
