Newcastle Town FC 1-3 St Mary’s

A tough result today at home. St Mary’s pounced on a loose ball in the box to take the lead on 15 mins and shortly after they broke away down the wing to go 2-0 up. Newcastle then hit straight back when Nathan Mills found space out wide and whipped in a cross that Leigh tucked away to make it 2-1 before the break.

St Mary’s added a third early in the second half from a midfield turnover, and despite chances at both ends after that, it wasn’t our day.

Last weekend saw the 2016 Boys head to Laurelhill to take part in the Lisburn Castlereagh Charity Cup.

In what was this group's first ever taste of 9 aside football, the boys matched all of their opponents well & looked more than ready for the season ahead.

Some excellent football and results on the Saturday saw them return on Sunday for the semi final stage where they ran out comfortable winners.

Onto the final where they met a strong, physical Ballynagross side. Unfortunately the result didn't go their way but there were plenty of encouraging signs from each and every one of the boys and the coaches couldn't have asked for any more from them.

The future is definitely bright for this talented group of players!

Dromara 3 - Newcastle Town 2

Dromara showed exactly why they are unbeaten this season, starting fast at home and going 2-0 up through a penalty and a close-range finish but Newcastle refused to fold.

A few new faces in the squad settled well, and just before the break Lewis picked out Eoin Murray, who finished calmly to make it 2-1 at half time.

The second half belonged to Newcastle for long spells. Leigh Moore gave the Dromara defence a torrid time, and even after the home side went 3-1 up, the lads kept pushing and Peter Brannigan’s hold-up play teed up Jonathan Scannell to make it 3-2 and set up a nervy finish. The lads fought until the end but couldn’t find the equaliser.
