Norwich Soca Seniors

Alan Birrell, of Norwich Soca Seniors, visited the offices of AGE UK Norwich on Aug 12th to drop off the £2,250.00 donation raised at NSS’s recent Charity Tournament.

Fiona Gosden Head Of Services and Richard Edrich Health Specialist were on hand to accept the donation.

The donation will help support AGE UK Norwich’s health coaches who visit seniors in the home setting to support healthy living, recovery, and rehabilitation.

This completes the hand-over of the £4500 raised.

Thank you again to everyone that contributed, played & supported the event.

We’re a little proud & very grateful to have raised £30,000 since we started our charity fundraising for good causes.. not bad for a bunch of old boys playing ⚽️

NSS took two teams

Rays Rascals who played 4 winning 2 drawing 2.

Johns Jolly Boys winning 3 of their 4 losing 1.

These days are worth so much more than the points!

The games were really close.

Both refs had an excellent performance.

Thank-you to Steve Tongue and to the Orient lads hospitality.

Big up to the experienced players offering lots of encouragement, guidance, praise - being non-critical to players who don’t get to be involved in many league or tournament games.

Hopefully Orient will come up to play us in next few months.

Norfolk club hosts big walking football tournament A local walking football club, with 160 members, held their now annual charity tournament on Sunday.

£4500 raised 👏🏻

Split between this years nominated charities, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and Age UK Norwich.

Thank you to everyone that helped make the tournament a wonderful event, including the excellent staff at The FDC

That’s circa £30,000 raised since we started hosting charity tournaments.

Four 60s teams arrived at the FDC on Sunday trying to claim the single spot in the FA Cup Regional Finals to be held in Dagenham on 6 September.

The 4 teams were NSS, CSF, King’s Lynn and Dereham Dribblers.

NSS started against King’s Lynn, and although almost the whole game was played in the King’s Lynn half they defended stubbornly and were only beaten by a penalty for encroachment.
Final score 1-0, with CSF beating Dereham Dribblers 7-0.

Next came old rivals CSF, with the game following a familiar pattern of very few shots on goal. The game finished 0-0, with the same score in the Dereham Dribblers v King’s Lynn game.

There didn’t seem much hope for the last game, with a 6 goal deficit to be overcome, but NSS ended up 9-0 winners and it could have been more.

CSF beat King’s Lynn 3-0, meaning NSS and CSF finished with identical records.

The lottery of the deciding penalty shootout ended with one NSS penalty hitting the inside of the post and staying out, meaning CSF qualified as winners by the finest of margins.

Good luck to CSF at Dagenham, and we meet again next weekend in the WFA Cup Regional Final.

The final, 10th, game of the Sunday league saw NSS Select make it a 100% record for the season as they registered a 5-1 win against a Watton side.

We had to call upon two 60s players due to injury and player non-availability and Kevin and Ian didn't let us down.

Kevin played up front and was a constant threat. He scored four, two penalties, a nice low finish into the corner and a toe poke that John R would have been proud of.

Ian chipped in with our final goal as he showed Bellingham like composure to take the ball past the keeper and then turn back before cooly slotting home.

Both players were ably supported by Mike and Richard on the flanks who provided good energy.

Richard's pin-point cross field passes were a constant feature and Mike had a number of efforts that were well saved by the Watton keeper. On another day he might have scored several goals.

Barry had a relatively quiet game in goal but made some important saves when called upon. He was finally beaten as Watton were awarded a cumulative running fouls penalty in the final attack of the match.

The win capped a really successful season for Select and also marked the Gaffer- Jon Stanley's - last game in charge of the team. We thank Jon for all of his efforts and wish him all the best moving up to the 60s league next season.

The over 65’s travelled to Coleshill today for the WFLA champions tournament
The first match was against Culcheth which we drew 1-1 with Richard Nicholls scoring an amazing equaliser
Match 2 was against Solihull and we just got over the line with a 2-1 score line with goals from Ray and Richard Nicholls again
We drew the third game against Wakefield 0-0
It was all to play for in our final match against our old foe Godalming and a draw was enough for us to win it but unfortunately due to a bit of bad luck we lost 1-0
We had a few chances to equalise but it didn’t go our way on this occasion
Thanks to the squad Richard Tasker Steve Matthews Ray DeKeyser Kevin Edwards Colin Stevens Richard Nicholls who gave it their all
Wakefield were the overall winner with us a creditable third.
