🚜 Car Park Access Extension Completed for Dorchester-on-Thames Parish Council

Koster Contractors Ltd recently completed a car park access extension for Dorchester-on-Thames Parish Council, delivering a practical and cost-effective solution within a tight budget.

✨ New Closeboard Fencing Installation – Abingdon ✨

A recent fencing project completed for a new client in Abingdon within their carport parking area.

The existing fence had reached the end of its life, with sections rotting, deteriorating, and beginning to fall down. As the fence helps protect vehicles from the weather and provides an important boundary around the carport, a full replacement was required.

🚜 French Drain Installation Completed for Abingdon Town Council

Koster Contractors Ltd recently completed the installation of a large French drain at an allotment site on behalf of Abingdon Town Council, designed to intercept and control water encroaching onto the main access track.

Persistent surface water was affecting access to the allotments and causing damage to the gravel track, so a drainage solution was required to capture and divert water away from the area.

Prior to commencing the works, we carried out a series of trial pits to assess the ground conditions and determine the most suitable drainage solution. Test holes excavated to approximately 750mm depth quickly filled with groundwater, confirming the extent of the waterlogging issues affecting the site.

Scope of works included:

✔️ Removal of existing damaged stock fencing
✔️ Excavation of a French drain to approximately 600mm depth
✔️ Works carefully carried out over a 400mm gas main, with excavation depth restrictions in place
✔️ All works inspected by SGN throughout the project
✔️ Installation of drainage pipework to convey water away from the affected area
✔️ New pipe route installed across the adjoining field and discharged into an agricultural ditch
✔️ Backfilling with 40/20mm drainage stone to create a permeable drainage system
✔️ Reinstatement of an area that had previously remained wet throughout the year prior to the drainage installation
✔️ Installation of replacement fence posts and re-tensioning of the existing stock fencing

The completed drainage system will help prevent water from reaching the access track, improving year-round access to the allotments, protecting the gravel surface and reducing future maintenance requirements.

A good start made on this RP4 livestock and machinery track in West Oxfordshire.

Working on extremely heavy clay ground, we excavated to formation level, installed a geotextile membrane and placed the base stone before persistent rainfall brought progress to a halt.

Unfortunately, the recent weather meant we had to pause works before completion to avoid compromising the quality of the finished track. We’ll be back on site as soon as conditions improve to complete the project to the standard our clients expect.

While the rain can slow us down, taking the time to do the job properly always comes first. We look forward to returning to site and sharing the finished result soon.
