Yorkshire Weekend at Pontefract & District Golf Club

This weekend we're celebrating all things Yorkshire!

Saturday 1st August is Yorkshire Day, and the celebrations continue on Sunday 2nd August with our Yorkshire Mixed Open.

To add to the fun, all players are invited to wear a Flat Cap, we'd love to see everyone getting into the Yorkshire spirit!

Last nights Caribbean night was a great success. Everyone came dressed for the occasion. We had Captain Jack Sparrow and Franks Rasta. The music had rhythm even when we didn’t . Jugs of Rum Punch loosened up the lips if not the hips .. our Jamaican chef cooked up amazing food from the Caribbean and a fabulous night was had by all. Thank you to everyone who made it happen !

The B Team played their final match against Pannal at home today ⛳️ choosing white sleeveless shirts as it was so hot! 🥵
Finishing with a draw there was some fabulous golf played ⛳️
Well done & thank you to all the Team players this year.. we’ve had some battles but we made it to the end!

Club legend Alf Taylor recorded his 2nd Hole in One of his golfing journey to date in our Ron Armitage Memorial Trophy Major on Saturday 11th July. Alf hit a perfect 5 wood on our 17th hole, his playing partners David Grassham and Ian Payne saying ‘that’s in the hole’ as the ball hit the green. This helped Alf to record 5 points on the hole & 41 points in total, just 1 point behind the winner Mick Scott, playing off 20 at the tender age of 82. Alf, a Past Captain, recorded his 1st Ace some 30 years ago on our old course and has been a member for 44 years. Congratulations to an all round good guy👏🏌️‍♂️👌🥃

This afternoon has seen another exciting battle for the Gents & Ladies Club Championships. The Ladies event was won by multiple winner Chantelle Shaw following a 2 hole play off with Christine Davison. The Gents competition went right down to the wire with our Junior Captain Joel O'Boyle winning by 1 shot from previous winner Jason Newton. At no expense, we flew Club Captain Russ back from Spain to present the trophies.Thank you to everyone who took part and to all the spectators who watched events unfold.👏🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♀️
