The exploits of an old bloke drag racing his Triumph. The Exploder has now been retired from racing and replaced with a Street Triple 765RS for 2019

Whoops I did it again... 0.07 red.
Hey ho. I've had a great weekend running Asbo Too. Learnt lots about the nanny systems on it. Made inroads into taming them and will contemplate what next.
That's the end of Greenlight for me. Good luck to Andy Frankland in the next round and well done running 12.55 on a 12.55 dial in on his TRX.
I'll.post a full write up over the next day or two.
And in other news - why does it take forever to pack everything away?

Phew. Round 1 win against Chad. Unfortunately he red lit, but it was still really close at the line.
I broke out, but only by 0.008, so a quick tweak for Round 2.
It was Chad's first meeting and outing on this bike. His numbers over the weekend show that he will be competitive in future events.
Thanks Lisa Rushton for the video again.

That's qualifying done, no improvement as the computer said no and the TC worked overtime right through 1st gear.
We have Chad Green in round 1, a newcomer to the class, but is running well on his newly acquired bike.

Day two of the Greenlight Nationals. One more qualifying run around 11.30ish then into eliminations.
A c**k up in q3 led to no time recorded and improvements by others pushed me down to p12. No pressure then!

Hopefully today will see much less downtime than yesterday.

Things to do whilst mopping up fuel and oil.
A day of attrition, currently 6 hours behind schedule.

Q2 In the bag. Slight improvement, but others improved more, so P5 at the minute. A short shift and hitting the limiterbefore the line mean still room for improvement.
Two more today, a bit behind schedule so Q3 potentially 3.30 ish.
Keep up to date with live coverage at Santa Pod TV.
Thanks to Lisa Rushton for the video.

Q1 completed. Having no idea what to dial, I chose an optimistic 10.20 and after a decent launch ran 10.37 at 140mph. Not great, but glad to get a straight, clean pass under my belt.
Turns out, it was good enough for a provisional 4th place.
Q2 due around 11.55
Thanks Jerry Collier for the video

IT'S OFFICIAL!!!
Asbo Too is scrutineered and ready for its first competitive drag race. Here we are at Santa Pod Raceway for the Greenlight Nationals.
Asbo is having a rest and I will be competing on the Speed Triple RX. The one whose computer keeps saying no to hard launches. Let's see how it comes with a fully prepped track.
Should be fun! Q1 is at 10.00 tomorrow morning. Watch it live on Santa Pod TV on YouTube and Facebook.

Motorcycle Sport Marshals.

Thank You.

We can't compete without you. You turn out for every event in the country.
Rain or shine, you are there.
You keep things running smoothly.
You keep us safe.
When we break and drop oil and stuff, you clean it up.
And when we fall you keep us safe till the medics arrive.

I salute you.

But what I have noticed, is it seems like there is a lack of younger people coming through, so as well as a thank you to existing marshals, this is a call out for new blood to get involved, even if it's just for a few weekend every year.

The pay is amazing! Not. It's voluntary, some expenses are available, but it isn't done for the money. It is a chance to become involved and be part of an amazing group of people and often get a ringside view - though you may not get to watch much racing.

I drag race at Santa Pod Raceway who have their own drag racing marshals, check out their opportunities here https://santapod.co.uk/opportunities/marshals/ both car and bike racing.
If you are further north get in touch with Marshals North West. They organise some of their own events, but supply marshals to motorcycle events around the northwest, including Aintree. Three Sisters, Oulton Park and the TT. Training is generally March time, but get in touch for further details.

If you aren't in either of these areas, Straightliners - The Home Of Speed run events on the other side of the Pennines or get in touch with your local race track and ask, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

If you have a few weekends spare, try it. You can always stop if you find it isn't for you. What have you got to lose?
