Official Club Statement: Funeral Arrangements for Paul Hyatt

It is with deep sadness that Newbold on Avon RFC shares the funeral arrangements for our dear friend and colt's clubmate, Paul Hyatt.
The service to celebrate Paul’s life will take place on Monday 26th October at 1:15 PM at Rushcliffe Oaks Crematorium, located near Gamston, Nottingham (NG12 2PY).
Paul left specific instructions in his will regarding the dress code. He explicitly requested no black clothing, asking instead for casual clothes including shorts. The club asks all members, players, and supporters attending to honour Paul’s final wishes and keep the attire relaxed and bright.
Arrangements for the post-funeral reception are still being finalised. The club will share an update regarding the venue as soon as those details are confirmed.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences remain with Paul's family and friends during this difficult time.

The ‘Building Bold’ Project: Securing the Next 130 Years of Community Sport

Newbold on Avon RFC is launching an ambitious, multi-phase development project to transform our club into a premier, multi-sport community hub. Funded through a combination of private donations, crowdfunding, and charitable grants, this initiative will ensure we leave a lasting legacy for the town of Rugby—supporting the health, wellbeing, and athletic development of generations to come.
As our membership and regional trajectory continue to climb, our infrastructure is facing critical pressure. We currently support more than 120 active players across our Men’s and Ladies' rugby teams alone, alongside growing participation in football, cricket, and Gaelic football. To sustain this momentum, expand our offerings, and maintain the highest standards of safety and safeguarding, we must urgently modernize our site.

Our Phased Vision

To deliver this transformation sustainably, the project is structured into targeted phases over the next 12 to 18 months:
• Phase 1: The New Grandstand (Immediate Priority): Our current spectator stand was recently condemned, creating safety and access restrictions that limit participation, matchday income, and charity events. We will replace it with a modern, fully accessible, weather-protected facility designed for easy expansion.
• Phase 2: High-Performance & Hospitality Expansion: Building on the Phase 1 foundations, we will introduce additional changing rooms, a dedicated physiotherapy suite, an on-site gym, and enhanced hospitality options—including an outdoor bar and corporate entertainment spaces.
• Phase 3: Indoor Training & Multi-Sport Arena: The launch of a state-of-the-art indoor training facility, integrated gym, and changing infrastructure. This area will be accessible to multi-sport activities, strategically aimed at driving physical activity across men’s, ladies', and youth sports.
• Core Infrastructure & Sustainability Hub (Parallel Phase): Running alongside our major builds is a complete modernization of our existing clubhouse. This includes upgrading changing rooms, showers, toilets, the kitchen, the bar, and the members' lounge. Crucially, we are introducing green energy initiatives to optimize heating, lighting, and power, making the club environmentally and financially sustainable.

The Impact of Your Support

By backing the 'Building Bold' campaign, you are investing directly in the social and physical fabric of our town. Your contribution will deliver:
• A Flagship Multi-Sport Hub: A modern, inclusive venue for local schools, youth groups, women’s and girls’ sports, and charity events.
• Enhanced Safeguarding & Safety: Updated, secure spaces that ensure a safe, first-class experience for minors, athletes, and spectators alike.
• Massive Footfall & Economic Growth: In the long term, these upgrades are projected to increase weekly club footfall from 450 to approximately 1,800 people, boosting the local visitor economy.
• High-Visibility Partnerships: With a highly active digital presence—including daily posts across Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok averaging 250+ views per post and growing—our partners and majori donors will benefit from prominent, consistent brand exposure.

🤝 How You Can Help

We are seeking support from residents, local businesses, and sports enthusiasts to help us build a community hub the entire town can be proud of. Whether you are buying a reward, making a personal donation, or exploring a corporate sponsorship package, every pound brings us closer to breaking ground on Phase 1.
Join us in building the future. Back the 'Building Bold' project today.

03/10/26 Newbold on Avon v Towcestrians
Newbold welcomed old rivals, Towcestrians, to Parkfield Road for their first home game of a delayed season, writes Dave Cheney. On a gloriously sunny afternoon, the large gathering of Vice Presidents were treated to a feast of attacking rugby as Newbold emerged 47-21 winners after a superb all-round performance.
Newbold kicked off and were soon on the attack and, following a lineout near the Towcestrian’s line, Toby Lafferty forced his way over for the first try of the game to give Newbold an early lead.
Although the visitors back line looked dangerous in attack, Newbold seemed to be in control of the game. It was, therefore, somewhat of a surprise when the visitors scored their first try following a lineout near Newbold’s line. With the conversion added, the visitors took the lead for the only time in the game.
Stung into action, Newbold instantly went on the attack. A break by Finn Conway took play deep into their opponent’s half before he was stopped by a high tackle. With Nick Walton winning the ensuing lineout, a tremendous rolling maul took the ball close to the line before the ball was released along the back line for Kyle Kerfoot-Bale to score a try close to the posts. Oisin McKenna added the conversion to extend Newbold’s lead.
From the restart, Towcestrians launched an attack close to Newbold’s line only for Manny Sidhu to intercept a pass and race almost the length of the field to score a fine individual try which was converted by Oisin McKenna to give Newbold a 19-7 lead. Despite continuing to attack the Towcestrian line there were no more scores before halftime.
This pattern of play continued into the second half. Following the kick off good work from Oisin McKenna, Jake Martin, Ben Dawes and Dillan Kromhout, took play up to the visitor’s line. From the lineout, Coaches Man of the Match, Dillan Kromhout brushed aside desperate tackles to power over for a try under the posts with Oisin McKenna again converting.
Newbold were now in the ascendency, and it was not long before they scored their fifth try when a jubilant Fin Reed finished off a move started by Jack Saunders and Ben Dawes. The conversion was, again, added by Oisin McKenna.
Towcestrians launched an attack of their own after the restart only for Archie Wade and Oisin McKenna to release Jake Martin to score a try under the post which allowed Oisin McKenna to add the two points for the conversion.
However, Towcestrians showed why they have finished in the top three for the past two seasons and continued to attack whenever they had the opportunity. From a lineout near the Newbold line, they scored their second try under the posts to reduce the deficit.
Back came Newbold and a kick ahead by Finn Conway chased by Oisin McKenna and Archie Wade took play into the Towcestrian’s 22 only for a stray pass to be intercepted by the visitors who ran the length of the field to score under the posts.
From the kick off Finn Conway broke deep from within his own half to enable Jake Martin to score under the posts. Oisin McKenna added the conversion to leave the final score 47-21 and maintain Newbold’s unbeaten start to the season. To add to the celebrations, victories for the 94s and the Revolution meant a clean sweep for the Bold with all three teams celebrating in the clubhouse with the club’s VPs, who selected Fin Reed as their Man of the Match.
