💧 The science behind watering our greens…
It would be easy to think that during hot weather the answer is simply to turn the sprinklers on for longer.
In reality, it's a little more scientific than that!
For our greens to perform at their best, we're aiming for soil moisture levels between 15–25%.
After another very hot weekend, three of our greens were well below that target on Monday:
🔴 9th — 9.0%
🔴 14th — 8.2%
🔴 17th — 11.9%
Rather than simply applying more water everywhere, our Course Team uses moisture meters to map each green, identify the driest areas and then target them with hand-watering.
Test. Water. Re-test. Repeat. 💧
By Wednesday:
🟢 9th — 17.9%
🟢 14th — 16.5%
🟢 17th — 18.3%
There are still dry areas visible on Wednesday's maps — and that's exactly why the data is useful.
The team can see precisely where further water is needed without unnecessarily watering areas already within the target range. Some areas naturally dry more quickly too — such as the steep run-off at the front of our 9th Green.
When every litre counts, particularly during the exceptionally dry conditions we're experiencing, it's about putting the water where it's needed, when it's needed.
A little bit of science behind the scenes to keep the greens performing. 🌱⛳💧

Same hole. Just 55 days apart! ☀️🏌️♂️
📸 19th June vs 13th August.
On a day when temperatures reached 38.1°C somewhere in the UK, it seems an appropriate time for another before-and-after!
The fairways might have lost a little colour, but there are some compensations…
🔥 Firm, fast-running summer golf
🚀 Drives going distances we’ll happily take credit for
⛳ And greens that remain the priority
If you’ve ever wanted to know what your summer carry + 50 yards of roll looks like, now’s your chance! 😎
The rain will return. Until then, enjoy the bounce and run!

Last night’s partial solar eclipse provided a pretty spectacular backdrop to High Post. 🌒✨
Amazing. Beautiful. And just a little humbling.
Some stunning images captured from the Club as the sun went down.
📸 Huge thanks to Russell Stafford for sharing these fantastic photos.

🌱 Course Maintenance Complete! ⛳
Our lighter-than-usual Summer Course Maintenance Week is now complete, carefully tailored to minimise stress on the greens during the current dry conditions and water shortages.
The team has completed:
✅ Micro hollow-tine aeration
✅ Light top dressing
✅ Rolling
✅ Fertiliser & bio-stimulant applications
The greens will continue to improve over the coming days as the fertiliser works its way into the soil profile, with the next cut scheduled for Monday morning.
⛳ A Small Request...
With the greens now softer than usual, please repair your pitchmarks — and if you can, repair another one nearby too. It only takes a few seconds but makes a huge difference to the quality of the putting surfaces for everyone.
💧 Water tanker deliveries continue as we work to keep the greens healthy, and with another week of sunshine and temperatures approaching 30°C forecast, please also remember to look after yourselves.
☀️ Stay hydrated.
🧴 Wear sunscreen.
⛳ Repair pitchmarks, replace divots and rake bunkers
🚭 No smoking on the golf course
A big thank you to Tom and the greenkeeping team for all their hard work in what continue to be very challenging conditions.
Have a great weekend and enjoy your golf! 💚⛳
