A recap of our men's fixtures over the weekend 🔙

Out 1XI travelled to play Norton Woodseats and chose to field first. The hosts were 67-5 around the halfway point before building partnership to keep the scoreboard ticking over. They ended 184 all out. Skipper Tom Exley with 2, Jack Meek with 3-50 and Charlie Armitage with 4-54.
In reply, half the wickets were gone with only 22 runs on the board. Skipper Tom Exley (61) was joined by Ben Askey (49) and the pair put on a magnificent 125 partnership. We unfortunately then lost our last four wickets for just 14 runs to finish 28 runs short.

The 2XI welcomed Maltby Miners to Queen Street and our visitors asked us to have a bat. Newly reinvented opening-batting-all-rounder Matt Scholey (36) got us off to a good start whilst three wickets fell at the other end. At 91-5 the game hung the balance when the experienced pair of Michael Brown (56) and Marcus Hoyland came together. A 75 run partnership saw us get up to 166-6 and some big hitting from Marcus and Paul Dalton saw us post 222-6. Marcus finishing 77 not out.
In reply, the visitors were unable to build big partnerships with wickets falling regularly. Some tight bowling and excellent fielding left Maltby behind the run rate. Victory by 61 runs was sealed by a fantastic catch in the deep by Ben. Stand out figures of 4-29 from Paul Dalton, 2 each for Matt and Marcus.

The Sunday XI welcomed South Kirkby to Queen Street and we fielded first. Another wicket in the first over for Jack Gillespie (2-21) set us going. Four of the Under 15s bowled well around the experienced senior players, Joe M and Jack D with a wicket each. 2-20 for Michael Brown and standout figures of 3-14 for Charlie Armitage. 169-9 the score at tea.
In reply a opener Jack Meek scored 30, as we reached 75-4. Jack Gillespie joined Brownie (59 not out) in the middle and scored a brutal unbeaten 57 from just 35 balls, sharing a 95 run partnership, to see us home by 6 wickets.

A look back at the weekends results for our Senior mens teams, 1XI unable to play due to the wet Pen*stone weather on Saturday.
The 2XI travelled to Millhouses Works and asked the host to bat first. A 50 opening partnership was broken and just after the halfway stage the score was 94-2. Then an unbelievable spell of bowling by Matt Scholey; 9 overs, 3 maidens, 17 runs and 7 wickets, saw the hosts bowled out for 110. 💪

In reply the hosts bowled extremely tight, a 50+ partnership between Jack Du and James Sen, who top scored with 37. Regularly wickets then fell to leave us 88-9. Marcus Hoyland (26*) and all-rounder Matt Scholey then saw us home, sealed with a 6 to narrowly win by 1 wicket.

A youthful Sunday side travelled to Bullcroft Main yesterday and Skipper Matt, who finally won a toss, asked the hosts to bat first. An eventful first over saw the hosts 8-2. Our young bowlers bowled well taking regular wickets the host 75-6 at the halfway stage. A good partnership was finally broken by Jack Da and the hosts were dismissed for 135. 1 wicket for Nathesh, 2 for Jack Da, Jack Gillespie and Maiya and 3-23 for Joe M.

In reply, we lost opener Jack Du with 25 on the board the other opener, Maiya looked unchallenged at the other end scoring freely. A couple of wickets saw us 93-3 before Michael Brown (24*) came in to join Maiya to see us home. Maiya batted wonderfully and carried her bat to end 84 not out, leading the team off at the end. 👏

Recap of last weekend senior men's games. 🔙

Tough day for the 1XI against Thorpe Hesley & HG 1XI. Batting first we were only able to score 107, Sam John top scoring with 37. In reply, the hosts knocked off the runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

It was better news for the 2XI at home against Thorpe's 2XI. The visitors electing to bat first and got off to a strong start. Despite the fast outfield, regular wickets fell, shared out between the bowlers. Best figures for Jack D with 3-23, saw us set 164 for victory. A useful 40 for Michael Brown and some important quick runs from Jack G towards the end, helped John Beachill build an unbeaten match winning innings of 58 to see us home by 2 wickets.

The Sunday XI welcomed Old Sharlston to Queen Street. Asked to bat first, opener Jack D top scored with 41and Connor Smythe scored 34 to see us post 184 all out. In reply, the visitors opener scored a well made 50 but victory looked inevitable as they fell to 107-9. A powerful 62 from number 10 took them close but victory was secured by 10 runs. Marcus Hoyland with the best figures of 3-7.
