SHGL Hamptworth
Evening Ladies & Gents.
This weekend just gone was round 5 of the SHGL at home to Hamptworth Gc.
It’s Been bit of a mixed bag to the start of the season with two losses a draw and a home win and Sitting bottom of the table we needed a big performance, and perform we did. Winning 4.5-1.5 and taking a vital 9pts out of 12.
This coming week sees us at home again against East Horton our closest rivals from last year just pipping them by 2pts on the last day to win the league so will prove to be a great match I’m sure.
Thank s to my team for a great performance and to Eugene and his staff for great service as always.

Southampton Seniors road trip last week continued with a visit to the formidable Meyrick Park golf club in Bournemouth.
Although the match started in sunshine, the clouds soon rolled in and thunderstorms were threatening to stop play. However the worst of the weather seemed to somehow miss the course and a very competitive match was played out.
The outcome was a great one for Southampton as they managed their first win of the season with a 3 matches to 2 victory.
The after match hospitality and food was superbly presented. The return match in August is now something to look forward to.

Match Report
Evening Ladies & Gents
This past Sat was the Capt V XCapt between myself and young Mike Wilkinson 😁. We 18 player so 9 a side. We flipped a coin and Mike got to pick first.
With teams paired and the weather as good as it gets for May we commence battle.
I went down early in the match 2dn after 3 and pretty much stay there. All my gentle sledging wasn’t enough to put Mike of his game with me eventually falling on his sword losing 3&2.
Unfortunately the rest of my team didn’t fair much batter losing the match 6.5-2.5
Congratulations to young Oakley Adams taking the Sweep with the biggest winning margin over Jack McLaughlin.
The day was topped off with a lovely Roast from Eugene and his staff and a few largeritas on the patio.
Big thanks to all that took part.

Southampton Seniors were once again on the road to a rearranged fixture at Cams Hall Estate in Fareham.
The weather was glorious sunshine and the course was in excellent condition as usual proving to be good test of golfing skill.
The matches were hard fought and close but local knowledge once again proved to be the deciding factor and the home team ran out winners by 4 matches to 2.
None the less everyone had a great day out and the after match food and hospitality was excellent as usual. The team can look forward to the return match in August and hope for a reversal of fortune.

Match report
With Sonny and Mike VC occupied elsewhere, I was honoured to be asked to captain the mighty Royal Muni team to play for the Malc Calvert trophy against West Wellow. In blistering heat we went out like a steam train and with a couple of 3&2 victories (modesty prevents me from stating who) we ended up winning the fixture 4 1/2 to 1 1/2. The return leg at West Wellow will determine who wins the trophy and whether I retain my unbeaten streak. Thanks to all the lads that played and food and course were both excellent.

Our Southampton ladies first away game took place at Wellow Golf Course. What a beautiful, sunny day it was! Many thanks to Vice Captain Liz for inviting us and making us feel right at home. The Wellow team consisted of experienced golfers, while we’re still beginners working hard to improve. In the end, we managed a 2–2 draw. Thanks again for the delicious food and drinks, the lovely course, and the great company. We’ve invited them to play at our home course next year and are really looking forward to it! Well done girls 👍👍👍👏👏👏⛳️⛳️⛳️

Southampton seniors were on the road again this time with a trip to the picturesque Gosport and Stokes Bay Golf Course
The course was in superb shape, in spite of two altered holes due to renovation work. The weather was perfect and and the team had a great day out. However home advantage told and Gosport ran out winners by four and a half matches to One and a half.
The great hospitality and friendly spirit of this fixture shone through again and the after match Buffet was excellent as usual.
The return fixture is not until October but everyone will be looking forward to it.
