We were delighted to welcome Southend YMCA to Roots Hall today on behalf of the Shrimpers Trust and Southend United Football Club. They enjoyed a full afternoon of hospitality and it was made all the more exciting by a 3 - 1 win against AFC Flyde.

Lisa, the senior fundraising lead said -
Many of the young people we support have faced significant challenges in their lives, including homelessness, isolation, and difficult personal circumstances. Opportunities like this are something they would rarely experience and can make a huge difference to their wellbeing, confidence, and sense of belonging.

The chance to attend a special event, enjoy a memorable experience, and feel valued by the wider community would mean so much to them. It gives them the opportunity to create positive memories, spend time with their peers, and enjoy something that many of us might take for granted.

We were so saddened to hear of James Walker's passing at the age of just 38. James and his mum, Dawn, became part of the Trust family in the past few years through our work with SUEPA to raise funds for his care following his cardiac arrest. 'A Match for James' in May 2023 was a brilliant event which brought the Southend United family together, and the money raised seemed to be a real help for him and Dawn. It was a joy to hear of his improvements and even to see him back at Roots Hall eventually. The news of his death has hit us hard. We are sending love and light to Dawn and the rest of James' family and friends, and we urge all Shrimpers to join the minute's applause for him before today's match.
