🏆 We are celebrating an absolute superstar who captured the imagination of jumps fans everywhere: the magnificent chestnut, Sire De Grugy!

Long before his spectacular dominance in the two-mile chasing division, he visited Somerset in February 2012. Showing incredible grit, he carried top weight to victory in a handicap hurdle right here at Taunton! ❤️💙🤍

Trained brilliantly by Gary Moore and famously ridden by his son Jamie Moore, that Taunton win was just a stepping stone. He went on to become an absolute phenomenon over fences, winning the 2014 Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, alongside two Tingle Creeks, two Celebration Chases, a Clarence House Chase, and a Desert Orchid Chase! A true horse of a lifetime.

The Taunton Racecourse team enjoyed a day's racing at the Dragon Bet Welsh Racing Festival at Chepstow on Friday.

🏆 Today, we are celebrating a horse whose bravery and incredible longevity captured the hearts of jumps fans everywhere: the fabulous Menorah.

Already a Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner in 2010, Menorah visited us in December 2011 during his transition to the larger obstacles. Ridden by his trusty partner Richard Johnson, he easily claimed a Novices' Chase right here at Taunton! 💙🩵

That victory set him on a fantastic path over fences for trainer Philip Hobbs. Just a few months later, he conquered Aintree to win the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices' Chase. Known as the absolute king of Sandown Park - Menorah was a true warrior for owners Grahame and Diana Whateley. 🏇

We are delighted to announce that Barber's Cheese will be sponsoring the newly resurrected Portman Cup Handicap Steeple Chase on Tuesday 9 February 2027. 🏇

The race, last run as a conditions race back in 2022, will now be run as a 0-150 handicap over 3 miles 4 furlongs 85 yards with a Prize Fund of £40,000. With its new race conditions and date in the national programme, it is likely to be a popular stepping-stone for potential Aintree Grand National candidates.

🏆Today we are shining the spotlight on a truly incredibly dual-purpose star: the brilliant Grumeti.

Before he was capturing Grade 1 glory, he showed his early promise right here at Taunton. Running in the famous colours of the McNeill Family and trained by Alan King, he battled to a brilliant victory in a juvenile hurdle on our track. 🤍💙❤️

That Taunton win was the perfect springboard. Grumeti went on to win the Grade 1 race at the Aintree Grand National meeting just a few months later! But his versatility didn't stop over jumps—in 2015, he stunned the racing world by switching to the flat and winning the historic Cesarewitch Handicap at Newmarket at odds of 50-1.
