Bishops Hull Cricket Club

Today marks three years since the tragic loss of our friend and teammate, Barnaby Webber.

Barney was a very valued member of Bishops Hull CC, and he is still missed by all of us who had the privilege of playing alongside him.

Flowers will be laid at the club today to remember him, and on Sunday we will come together once again for our annual Memorial Day of cricket for Barney. A special opportunity to remember a much loved friend and teammate - everyone is welcome and we’d encourage you to come along and join us💙

Tomorrow marks three years since Barney was tragically taken from us. He remains a much loved friend, teammate and part of the Bishops Hull Cricket Club family.

Anyone wishing to pay their respects is welcome to visit the club throughout the rest of today and tomorrow and lay flowers in his memory💙🏏

🏏 Sunday we have our Barnaby Webber Memorial Day. We are aiming for a 11:30 start for the first game, which is then followed by two more games. It would mean a lot to the club and the family to see as many faces there supporting the day💙

We welcome Bread & Butterworth CC for another midweek friendly, ahead of their participation in Barney’s Memorial Day this Sunday.

Join us this evening for what promises to be an enjoyable night of cricket and a great opportunity to support both clubs ahead of a special weekend.

Just 1 week to go until our Barnaby Webber Memorial Day — join us next Sunday as we remember our former teammate, friend, brother and son💙

Since losing Barney back in June 2023, this particular day has become a special opportunity for us as a club to remind ourselves of what a great person he was by bringing together his family, friends, teammates and the wider community through a game and place he loved.

This year will see 3 teams involved taking part in a round-robin format, with each side player each other once in a 16 over match. The teams involved are as follows:

🏏 Bishops Hull CC
🏏 Bread & Butterworth - a friendly cricket side Barney played for regularly alongside his closed friends Ed Smith and Jakarta A-Skinner, as well as his Dad and Brother.
🏏 Can You Cricket Club - a team associated with a YouTube channel Barney loved watching. Gareth Grant of “Can You Cricket” has joined us on three previous occasions creating videos around games played in Barney’s memory. Gareth brought his YouTube club to play us last year, and is returning next week for the Memorial Day.

We are aiming for the first game to be 11:30am.

There will be plenty going on throughout the day with Barney’s Bar serving refreshments both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, a BBQ running alongside it and a full day of cricket for everyone to enjoy! 🍺🍔🏏

Whether you knew Barney personally, have been affected by the story, or simply want to support the day - we’d love to see as many of you down the club as possible on Sunday. Come along, support the cricket, support the day, enjoy the atmosphere, and join us in remembering a life that continues to bring people together.

Take a look back on yesterday’s summary of results! 🙌

A comfortable win for our 1st XI yesterday putting 322 past Taunton Deane 3rd XI. A wet and windy day didn’t stop the boys from scoring big! Skipper, Matt Chanter, with a quick fire 62, backed up by the other 2 Chanters both reaching their 50’s👏

Some good bowling and fielding with the help of Deane’s opening batsman (32 off 104 balls), we bowled Deane out with the final ball of the match for 137! We sit top of the league after 6 games!

Our 2nd XI were defeated yesterday away to Trull, difficult conditions again left our 2’s all out for 100, Trull chased down in the 21st over.
