A great start to our County Cup campaign this season with a 4-2 victory over Ipplepen 2nd who we knew weren’t going to be an easy team to turnover.

They came out of the blocks fastest and started on the front foot, getting a goal from a corner that we just couldn’t seem to get out of our own box. Not a great start but this woke us up a bit.

Zach gaining possession of the ball and hitting a strike from distance, over the keeper’s head and straight into the stanch. 1-1 and game on!

Matty gets the next goal before the end of the half as Zach plays him in down the right and Matty scores neatly to the bottom left corner.

At some point in this half, a penalty was given following a miscommunication between our defender and the goalkeeper meaning the keeper picked the ball up. Thankfully Sticks compensated for the error and saved the resulting spot kick.

Second half and we come out of the blocks again, a few changes are made to freshen things up and this shows when Dom gets on the scoresheet. Matty absolutely bombing down the right hand side again, no one getting near him and then playing the pass into Dom’s feet, the ball goes up over one player, falls nicely past the next one and Dom finishes calmly to make it 3-1.

Next up, Da**ie decided he wanted to one-up Zach. Bleaks takes a throw in which Wardy does well to protect it from in between two players and lay it off to Da**ie. He sets himself, left foot, straight into the stanch. AGAIN!

Lastly, Pens manage to slip in their nippy forward, the flag goes up but the referee waves play on and after a couple of last ditch attempts to stop him, the ball falls back to him for him to place it home and finish the scoring at 4-2.

Sticks, man of the match two weeks on the bounce after a penalty save and some absolutely phenomenal short range stops keeping us in the game when things weren’t necessarily going our way.

Big love the John Bull again for having us back, taking care of the players!

🏆 Intermediate Cup (County Cup)

Into our first week of cup action this weekend as we welcome Ipplepen Ressies to Barton Downs. We played them in pre season and are well aware of the quality they offer, giving us a tough game then and I’m sure this won’t be an easy game.

On home turf, it would be great to see some locals coming up and cheering the boys on as we start the cup campaign. Afterwards, back to the John Bull as usual for some great hospitality!

Keeping the league standings strong this weekend with a solid 3-0 victory over Brixham Town 2nd at Barton Downs. Plenty of disruption today but the lads managed to keep focused and walk away with the three goals and another clean sheet.

Early on, the Brixham Town keeper finds himself in the sin bin for dissent following an early disagreement with the referee and for simply refusing to go and get the ball.

Our first goal came after Clay makes a great run down the left, twists and turns, tying the defenders in knots and rightfully wins a penalty. The stand-in Brixham keeper is faced with a penalty to attempt to save but Clay makes no mistake and puts us one up.

Midway through the second half, Bleaks puts some pressure on the opposition defender, nicks the ball and plays in Wardy to calmly finish and then produces the biggest celebration he’s ever done.

Late drama continues as a Brixham Town player is shown red and reduced to ten men, following a tussle in our box. He thinks he’s been fouled, the referee waves it on and the player offers the referee a few choice words which were dealt with swiftly by today’s official.

We take full advantage of our additional man when Ben is played down the right-hand side. He manages to squeeze a cross towards the penalty spot where Jay has come in from the right and coolly dispatches it while wheeling away like Alan Shearer, finger to the air!

Sticks rightfully takes man of the match today with some brilliant saves, catching absolutely everything and being a big part, with our defence, the reason we kept a clean sheet.

Big thanks to the John Bull for your hospitality again, the pies went down a treat!

A very dominant performance against a struggling Villa squad to continue our push for the top of the league. 3 wins out of 3 and today was all about Matty with him getting a hat trick, two assists and man of the match voted by his team mates.

Plenty of goals and it’s hard to remember all of them honestly so just going to write what I can remember. Zach assisting Matty twice, Jord helping himself to one also.

Nath scoring an audacious flick from Matty’s run from the right hand side and also another free kick goal to add to his tally, won by Jay who got himself in some great positions when he came on.

Hancock being played in by Dyl onto the left hand side of the box where Hancock hits it straight to the keepers left and claims one for himself.

Lastly, Matty crossing to Spence who rises highest and headers home from a short range to mark his return to the club.

Big thanks once again has to go to John Bull for hosting us post game and thanks to a few of the Villa lads for coming back also.

Next weekend, Brixham Town, at home again.

What a result considering we went into half time 4-1 down and playing possibly one of our worst halves of football in a long time. Stern words said at half time and the lads lifted themselves, showing great character to ensure they came away with all 3 points.

Dom getting a hat trick, easily making him man of the match on the day. His first being assisted by Connor, knocking the ball long and Dom lobs the keeper who got caught in no man’s land. His second was a cut back from Matty, who made a great run down the right side to chase onto a Walts long pass. His third was assisted by Nath, who put the ball over the top for Dom to get on the end of and bury it.

Clay getting his own goal, assisted by Dyl who slipped Clay in on goal following a Walts throw in (standard) and Nath is our final goal scorer, smashing home a decent free kick that the keeper had absolutely no chance of getting.

A real turnaround and almost two completely different halves of football but proud of the lads for their character and being able to overturn such a large deficit going into half time.

Big love again to John Bull for hosting us after the game, keeping us fed and hydrated post game!

The sun came out today for a close game as we welcomed Ilsington Villa 2nd for their first competitive league match.

Our first goal comes when Terry gets a shot away which the keeper parries and the weary traveller, Wardy, gets onto the end of it to break the dead lock and get our first goal of the season.

At half time, Sticks unfortunately can’t continue due to taken a knock to the head in the first half so Matty comes out of goalkeeper retirement and dons the gloves once more for the second half.

The opposition get a free kick outside our box which is delivered towards the back post. Everyone seemed to switch off at this point as an Ilsington player loops a header over the stand-in keeper to make it 1-1.

We get a free kick not far from the edge of the 18 yard box and the ever reliable Nathaniel stands over it. He smashes it home and makes it 2-1.

The boys do well to see out the game, with a few early injuries starting to sneak in, and everyone does what they need to do to ensure we come away with all 3 points.

Good luck to Ilsington for the rest of the season and we look forward to the second leg at your place.

Big thanks to John Bull for hosting us post game and looking after both us and the opposition!

2026/2027 starts tomorrow with a visit from Islington’s new chapter of their club! We faced this team in pre-season and we saw some handy young players coming through and showing they’re ready to fight for the step up to open age.

Looking forward to getting it up and going again after a long pre-season happening behind the scenes for the club.

Starting with a home match so hopefully get some good support for the game and then back to the John Bull afterwards!
