Well another Dinghy Show passes. They all seem to fall into one long memory. Tried to count how many I have attended and how many I was involved with in exhibiting one of my boats across several classes. Lost count, but this year was the first in many where I went home without a trailer on the back. Harrah one says, until they shut the A3 north of Guildford for a while (someone took out the central reservation). A great weekend with the same loyal team making sure it happened. Squirrel GBR 774, having been built in the early naughties for Piers Lambert, passing through Mark Cockrill (Aka Doris Glenn/Roz Euros), Kathy Sherrat (Watts) onto Dave Hayes and finally Lucy Loughton to win the 2025 Worlds in Sydney. What we managed to show this year on the class's 40 anniversary (42 years since the design concept was started), is that with careful progressive evolution and a bit of TLC along the way, the hull has stood up to time and has a fair number of years left in her to win. There was much interest being shown in the class and hopefully that will result in better attendances at TTs and a good turnout in June at Torbay for the Euros and Worlds. If you are thinking of attending or possibly an old B14 sailor looking to Charter, go to FB B14 Sailors and let the team know. The other option is a reasonably priced brand new one but to order now

So something a little different to what we normally do. So the fun has started. We have bought an old Tasar to go back to my roots and see what we can do to help raise the profile fo the class and have some fun with old friends on the water. The job has been a bit bigger than I had hoped and started a bit later than I had hoped due to the build build we have had going on. So 2814 looked a bit sorry for herself, but we have bitten the bullet and decided to make the best job we could. That has meant reconditioning the hull (photos before and today (few bits I may revisit later due to colour mismatch on first hit as she was more pure white when we started, then rubbed the repairs and nearer signal white (had to blend the two colours to get the match)), replacing the foils, mast, rigging, toe straps, pole, blocks and ropes. Fitting the new case insert was interesting as tight and Colin's crib sheet was a good helpful read. I made ours out of one sheet twice wrapped and peel played for tightness etc). Like building parts for the B14s, the end job if done well always takes a lot longer than people envisage. So 60 hours in, we have a hull repaired, case fitted, pole built, topmast and bottom mast in build, foils tidied up and main traveller car/track removed and reinstated as ends were floating (thought I'd blind bolt with an M5 either end, button investigation, not a quick job, so epoxy plugged and will tap with SS screws). Jobs to do deck finish mast, fit toe straps, ropes and grip. When finished she should should look pretty good. Thanks to Mandy Stock for her help in supplying more and more bits and Rick Perkins for the email chats about current setups prior to doing my own twist on layout within the rules. So next issue is to sort the crew for the Nationals and Garda as my primary choice is not fit and asking a few targeted people unable to do. I have been aiming high as this is a serious challenge to see what a well prepared, sailed GBR Tasar can achieve on waters I know well. Having won all before bar the Worlds, know what it takes to win and that most events are possibly won but can be lost prior to the event starting. So looking for a person to crew who is fit, sub 70 kg and wants to challenge to win possibly 1 or more of the events coming up. Nationals at WhItstable 13 - 15th June. Garda Euros/Worlds travelling out on the 11th July and back UK 22nd July

Well, another Dinghy Show passes. Great to catch up with both new and old faces. The event this year seems to have been busier than in the last few since covid. May have something to do with the weather and some positivity in sailing. The stand was busy with some good leads. GBR 799 Team Seavolution/North Sails was well received, admired in her new livery and one of the runners up in the Concours de Elegance. Well done to the team in getting the show sorted and Tony and Crispin for the hard work and banter over the three days. With some exciting new developments for the circuit to be announced very soon, 2025 looks like it could be a positive year leading into the 2026 Worlds
