Surrey Heath
When it comes to thinking about a Nightjar's journey back to Africa it's a challenge to visualise their flight. We are so used to observing their mating behaviours and acrobatic flight when breeding on our from April to September!
The long distance flight includes 'heading back over mountains, seas and desert to their Sub-Saharan wintering grounds' (RSPB).
How long does the journey take? Do Nightjars stop for rest in countries on route?
Fortunately there has been some research! Have a read here: https://bou.org.uk/blog-evens-nightjar-migration/
Juvenile may still be building up their strength to make this journey in early September so we'd like to thank all visitors with dogs that keep . ~Nicky

Did you know that ling is usually quite drought tolerant?
Sadly, with the prolonged drought that we are experiencing this , it appears that we are not seeing the swathes of purple that we expect in August. In fact some of the are looking rather autumnal 🙁
