It was a wet one at Ballards Ash this weekend. Great news for the pitches, not quite so much for the players and parents! ☔️

Still, our Youth teams weren’t going to let a bit of rain get in the way, with plenty of muddy boots and soggy smiles to show for another busy Sunday.

🏉 COMPETITIVE RUGBY IS BACK!

Following the RFU’s announcement delaying the start of the competitive community rugby season, we’re pleased to confirm that our 2026/27 competitive season will get underway on 📆 Saturday 26th September.

And it’s going to be a busy opening weekend for Bassett’s senior sides…

Saturday 26th September

🟠 1st XV vs Sidmouth RFC — AWAY
⚫ 2nd XV vs Chippenham RFC — HOME
🟠 3rd XV vs Supermarine RFC — AWAY

Then on Sunday 27th September…

⚫ RWBRFC Women vs Yate Rugby Ladies — HOME

Our 1st XV will play their first HOME fixture of the season on Saturday 3rd October, when they welcome St Austell RFC to Ballards Ash.

The summer break is officially over, the boots are back on and youth rugby has returned to Ballards Ash! 🙌

While our senior teams are still waiting patiently for their competitive season to begin, our Minis, Juniors, Colts and Ravens wasted no time getting stuck in on Sunday. New season, fresh faces and plenty of rugby — it’s good to be back!

Most people at RWBRFC know Dawn McCafferty as our Clubhouse Operations Manager. But not everyone knows that, away from the clubhouse, Dawn is a seriously accomplished long-distance triathlete.

Next weekend, Dawn will take on the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France – the pinnacle of middle-distance triathlon, and an event that you can only reach by qualifying.

It’s been a huge effort to get here. After suffering a shoulder injury that required surgery, Dawn has worked incredibly hard to get back fit, rebuild her strength and earn her place on the start line.

Dawn flies out on Tuesday, with the World Championship taking place on 12–13 September.

From everyone at Royal Wootton Bassett RFC, good luck, Dawn! We’re incredibly proud of you and will be cheering you on all the way.

Our Walking Rugby "Old Dogs" were back in festival action last weekend, making the short trip to Melksham Rugby Club for the inaugural Avros Walking Rugby Tournament.

It was another memorable day for the squad, with plenty of action and teamwork.

Our Senior Men’s pre-season fixture against London Scottish Lions on Saturday 5th September has been reversed, with both games now taking place AWAY at King’s House School Sports Ground.

🏉 MINIS & JUNIORS RUGBY RETURNS ON 6TH SEPTEMBER!

Our Minis & Juniors season will get underway on Sunday 6th September at 10am at Royal Wootton Bassett RFC.

The return of M&J rugby will go ahead as scheduled, despite the delay to the start of Senior rugby due to the recent dry conditions.

The safety of our young players remains our priority. Appropriate mitigation measures will be put in place while the ground remains hard and dry, with coaches adapting sessions and activities where necessary to suit the conditions.

🔶 Under 6 – Under 12:
Minis Rugby for boys and girls from reception through to Year 7 school ages.

🔶 Under 13 – Under 16:
Junior Rugby for boys training on specified weekday evenings, with matches usually held on Sundays.

🔶 Girls Rugby:
Our Under 12s to Under 18 'Ravens' teams provide an inspiring rugby programme for girls in school years 7 to 13.

New players can attend four free taster sessions, with no previous rugby experience required.
