THE PERSON
I was born in Long Beach, California but I mainly grew up in Northern Virginia before moving to Florida to finish High school.
My family is the most important thing in the world to me. They are a culmination of all the great things in my life and a source of inspiration for me every day. Growing up, they taught me to care for others, have integrity, and work as smart and as hard as I can.
Outside of basketball, the things that matter most to me are family, life experiences and personal growth. I want to experience as much of life as I can while continuing to grow as a person.
THE LIFESTYLE
Music is probably my biggest interest outside of basketball. I listen to a little bit of everything — hip hop, R&B, jazz, Afrobeats. Good music is good music.
I also enjoy lifting weights and spending time with my family. On a normal day off, I'm probably getting plenty of sleep and doing a light recovery lift.
I'm pretty simple when it comes to food too, I like pretty much anything. Lasagna and crab legs are probably two of my favourites.
Something people might be surprised to learn about me is that I really don’t like running, even though I run all the time. It's definitely something I don't enjoy, but I know it helps me, so I do it anyway. When I started running it was proof to myself that I was locked in, literally doing it because I know I don’t like it.
THE PROFESSIONAL
I try to approach workouts with the mindset that I shouldn't waste time. When I step into the gym, I want to go hard, get to work and make the most of the time. Outside of team practice, I like to watch film, stretch and lift to continue improving.
To me, being a professional means doing whatever I need to do for my career, whether I want to or not. I can't always check every box perfectly when it comes to things like my routine, sleep, or nutrition but I can always control my effort and commitment. If I'm genuinely trying to do everything I can to get better or improve my situation, that's all I can ask of myself.
When I'm going through a bad stretch of games or practice, I remind myself of all the hours I've already put in and trust that things will turn around. I try to remember that the work doesn't disappear just because things aren't going my way at the moment. Someone once told me it’s “when” not “if”. The law of averages will catch up at one point.
THE BALLER
I've been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. My dad is the one who really got me into the game. He played while serving in the Air Force, and he's been a die-hard Lakers fan forever, so basketball was always around me growing up.
My favorite part of basketball is competing and winning in games, but outside of games, there's something therapeutic about getting shots up in a gym alone and working on getting better.
There are a lot of people who have helped me get here, but my parents, my brother Deavon and my Uncle Anthony are some of the first people who come to mind. Anthony played a big part in getting me prepared for being a pro. Mentally as well as teaching me that what I thought was working hard wasn’t even scratching the surface. I'm beyond grateful for everyone who has contributed to my journey and helped me get to this point.
