Local Talent Added to the Thunder Roster 🏀

Worthing Thunder are pleased to announce the addition of several talented local players to our roster for BCB and D2 all of whom have developed through junior basketball programmes across Sussex and the South of England.

George Andrews (Flatbread) spent two seasons with Thunder Juniors and was also part of our Worthing College Academy before heading to Itchen College. George was then part of the Solent Kestrels team that won the Division 2 title last season.

Joey Taylor began his junior basketball with Surrey Rams before joining Worthing Thunder at U18 level. Joey was also part of our college academy team before spending the season last year playing in the Czech Republic.

Joe Lloyd came through the Brighton Cougars and played for Sussex Bears programmes before spending several seasons at Itchen College with the Solent Kestrels. Last season, Joe took his basketball to the USA, spending the year playing in Texas.

Seth Ofei Kwatia has also come through the Sussex Bears programme and was part of the Thunder & Bears last season. Seth also represented the Cardinal Newman College Academy, run by Josh Clarke through Sussex Basketball Performance.

Rex Kelly came through the Thunder Junior Programme and also attended the Worthing College Academy, which is run by Worthing Thunder.

These players now get the opportunity to continue development within the Thunder senior setup.

We believe that giving these young, locally developed players the opportunity to compete at D2 and BCB level alongside our professional players is a hugely important part of the club’s pathway.

It provides a bridge between junior and senior basketball, allowing local players to challenge themselves at a higher level, learn from experienced professionals and continue their development within their own community.

We are incredibly excited to see what this group can achieve. 🏀

🏀 WORTHING THUNDER SIGN KENNY SHIMWA! 🏀

Worthing Thunder are delighted to welcome 24-year-old, 6’10” Kenny Shimwa to the roster!

Kenny grew up in Brighton and has a strong connection with the club, having previously played for Worthing Thunder in NBL1. He also played EABL for BHASVIC as a junior, before playing ABL for Holy Trinity.

Kenny then headed to America for a spell in Kansas, before returning to the UK to play for the Nottingham Hoods.

Last season, Kenny took his talents to Ireland, where he played for the Killarney Cougars, gaining further valuable experience.

Now, Kenny is back with Thunder and ready to bring his experience, energy and knowledge of the game back to Worthing. 💪🏀

🚨 WORTHING THUNDER LAND BRENDAN GOODS! 🚨

Worthing Thunder are pleased to announce the addition of Brendan Goods to the roster for the upcoming season.

The 5’10” American/British point guard visited the UK this summer and spent time with a number of teams across the UK before deciding to make Worthing his home for the new season.

Originally from Florida, Brendan recently graduated from Regent University and now begins the next chapter of his basketball journey with the Thunder.

Brendan commented “I’m very excited and grateful for the opportunity to play for Worthing. I can’t wait to get to England, meet the team, and get to work. I’m looking forward to doing whatever I can to help the team win and have a successful season.”

Join us for a fun and exciting 6-week programme designed to introduce young players to basketball, build confidence, develop skills, and make new friends.

Worthing Thunder are delighted to announce that local player Alfie Price has been named in the BCB Men’s team.

Alfie began his basketball journey with Worthing Thunder Junior level, where he quickly showcased the hard work, determination, and commitment that have defined his progression through the club’s pathway. He also attended our academy programme at Worthing College, continuing his development both on and off the court as he progressed through the Thunder system.

His development is a testament to the opportunities available within the Thunder programme, and we are proud to see another homegrown talent earn the opportunity to represent the club at senior level. Alongside his involvement with the BCB Men’s team, Alfie will continue his development by competing in Division 2 basketball, further highlighting the progression opportunities available within the Thunder family.

In addition to his playing commitments, Alfie will also take on a coaching role within our junior programme, helping to inspire and develop the next generation of Thunder players.

Everyone at Worthing Thunder would like to congratulate Alfie on this fantastic achievement, and we look forward to watching him continue to grow and succeed both on and off the court.

Alfie commented : “I’m so grateful for the opportunity the club has given me and how they are helping me prepare for next season, I cannot wait to continue to work hard and see what the season brings. Go thunder”

Ishmael Fontaine: “Alfie is a testament to something I’ve always wanted to see for British players, especially here in Sussex. He has come through every level, progressed through the age groups, and continues to put in the work every single day to develop into a strong, reliable professional.

Not only has Alfie won at the U18 National League level, but he’s also enjoyed success at college level. He’s now playing a starring role for Chichester University while working towards a degree in Physiotherapy. On and off the court, he’s ticking all the boxes. Now, at the BCB level, it’s time to lock in and take that next step.

He’s becoming a fan favourite, a hometown hero, and an outstanding teammate.

What we appreciate most is his work ethic, his humility, and the positive impact he has on our culture.

As new recruits join the club, they’ll have someone they can lean on—someone who understands our plays, our systems, our standards, and what it means to represent this organisation.

I’d love to see the fans continue to support and motivate Alfie. I truly believe he’s becoming a huge asset to the club and an important part of the Thunder community. His best basketball is still ahead of him, and I can’t wait to see where his journey takes him.”
