‘Indefatigable Andrew’!!!

Two weeks ago after participating in the York Dragon Boat race raising money once again for Parkinson’s UK, Andrew asked me “what’s our next challenge?” So last weekend we signed up for the York 10K!

Donning our blue wigs once again, Andrew beat our last time by 2mins 7 seconds, completing the 10K in 1:36 split running and Nordic Walking. An incredible achievement considering we hadn’t trained for the event, the heat and wearing wigs!

A great moral boost putting Parkinson’s disease back in its place 🙌👏🎉

Quote of the week from regular Nordic Strider, Rachel Kenny;

“Don’t call me on a Friday morning I’m Nordic walking. I need to destress my head!” 😂 ~ never a truer word spoken 🧡

I have been a Nordic Walking Instructor and owner of Nordic Strides, here in York for 16 years. Over the years I have had the pleasure of motivating my members to take part in events to raise money for York Against Cancer, St Leonard’s Hospice and Motor Neurone Disease Charity.

I first met Andrew 3 years ago. He came along with his daughter Elizabeth, who had researched about the benefits of Nordic Walking for people with Parkinson’s. That initial first class was spent trying to help Andrew to simply walk! He couldn’t walk any distance and struggled with co~ordination. Since that first class I have Nordic Walked with Andrew several times a week, every week and the difference is staggering and in fact last year we completed the Great North Run, with Andrew raising over £2K for Parkinson’s UK.

Andrew’s dedication in doing all that he can to fight Parkinson’s is a daily inspiration to me and all who know him within the Nordic Strides Community.
That is why it is an absolute honour and career highlight to be paddling alongside Andrew in the Dragon Boat Race 2026!

If you would like to sponsor the Parkinson’s Team and help raise money for this amazing organisation then we’d be incredibly grateful 🙏 🧡

Tuesday KNAVESMIRE Nordic Striders!

Two gorgeous Nordic Walks this morning around Fulford Ings.

A HUGE welcome back to Linda Schumacher, who has had to take some time away from Nordic Walking. Our weekly walks haven’t been the same without her, so it was fantastic for Linda to join us again this morning.
