Entering League Football
The next step was inevitable.
The Sunday team was formed.
What began as casual football now had:
Training.
Fixtures.
League tables.
Cup competitions.
Club colours.
A club culture.
For the first time, YRK had a team representing the wider community on the pitch.
The challenge was no longer simply organising games.
The challenge was building a football club.

The football was growing.
The community was growing.
Now it needed an identity.
The first YRK kits arrived.
For the first time, players wore the same badge.
What started as a kickabout felt like a club.

As YRK grew, so did the ambition.
The original crest evolved into a modern identity built around a Yorkshire Rose and football.
The new badge represented something bigger than a team.
It represented a movement.
YRK wasn’t just organising games.
It was creating football opportunities.
The vision became clearer:
To build a football community where everyone could find their place.

More Than Just a Game
Throughout 2024 the community continued to grow.
YRK never set out to become exclusive.
It set out to become accessible.
There were no barriers.
No requirement to be the best player.
No requirement to know anybody.
Just turn up and play.
That approach resonated with people across York.
Week by week, new faces appeared.
Different ages.
Different backgrounds.
Different abilities.
All connected by one thing:
A love of football.
It emerged naturally from what YRK was already becoming.

YRK FC: The First Identity
Late 2023
Every club needs a badge.
The first YRK badge wasn’t designed by an agency or branding company.
It was designed with pride.
A Yorkshire Rose.
A shield.
Gold and burgundy.
EST 1986.
Not the year YRK was founded.
The year its founder was born.
The badge represented something personal:
Yorkshire. Football. Home.
At the time, nobody knew where it would lead.

YRK: The Story So Far
Chapter 1: It Started With a Kickabout
December 2023
The world had changed after Covid.
People had drifted apart. Friendships had become messages. Football had become something people watched more than played.
On a Tuesday night, a handful of lads turned up for a simple 7-a-side game.
No committee.
No sponsors.
No grand plan.
Just football.
The idea was simple:
Give people somewhere to play.
What nobody realised was that this wasn’t the start of a football team.
It was the start of a community.

YRK Football are launching the start of YRK Youth Casuals — the first step in building the future of our youth pathway.
Designed for players aged 17 and under, YRK Youth Casuals will provide structured weekly football sessions in a relaxed and welcoming environment, giving young players the opportunity to develop, build confidence, make friends and become part of the YRK community.
This is not about trials or selection.
It’s about creating a place where young players can enjoy football, improve their game and become part of something bigger as we develop our youth section.
As the programme grows, YRK Youth Casuals will act as a foundation for future youth teams and player development opportunities within YRK Football.
To join, a parent or guardian must register on Spond and complete the required player registration details.
We’re currently gathering interest from:
• Players aged 11–17
• Parents and guardians
• Volunteer coaches
• Individuals interested in supporting youth football within YRK
