Welcome to York Sailing Club.

We're a friendly dinghy sailing club on the River Ouse at Bishopthorpe, just south of York, and we welcome new members.

There are several ways to get involved:

• Experienced sailors
Join us and get straight out on the water.

• New to sailing
Crew for an experienced member and learn as you go. Our members are always happy to share their knowledge, and several are qualified RYA instructors.

• No boat? No problem
You don't need your own boat to join, and club boats are available for club members to use.

We sail regularly on Wednesday evenings and Sundays throughout the season. Whether you're interested in racing or simply enjoying time on the water, there's a place for you at YSC.

York Sailing Club is situated in Bishopthorpe, just south of York, and is easily accessible from both the A64 and York city centre.

Another enjoyable Sunday Club Day on the water, with 14 members taking part. We had 5 GP14s and the Fusion out on the river, making for a great turnout.

The wind was even more frustrating than usual, keeping everyone on their toes throughout the racing. There were plenty of close battles and shifting fortunes. Stephen managed to beat Pete in one race, while Matt made very light work of righting the Fusion after a capsize - great learning and practice! 😉

We were also pleased to welcome Hani for a taster day and hope you enjoyed your time on the water.

Many thanks to Noah, Mike, and Angela for the fantastic photos.

If you'd like to find out more about joining the club and enjoyingtine on the Ouse, we'd love to hear from you. Please email [email protected] for more information.

What a fantastic day at the York Sailing Club Open Day on Sunday! ⛵☀️

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, had a go on the water, chatted with members, and helped make the day such a success. It was brilliant to see so many new faces - from complete beginners to people rediscovering sailing after years away.

We loved welcoming families, friends, and future sailors down to the club, and we hope everyone enjoyed their time on the river. There were plenty of smiles, and lots of great sailing throughout the day!

If you are interested in joining the club, or have any questions, please do email us on [email protected]

A massive thank you as well to all our members and volunteers who gave up their time to run boats, welcome visitors, and help everything run smoothly. Events like this simply wouldn’t happen without you. 👏

If you visited and would like to get involved, keep an eye on our page or send us a message to find out more about our induction sessions and club sailing throughout the season.

Thanks again everyone - and hopefully we’ll see many of you back on the water soon! 🌊⛵

⛵ Points Series – What’s it all about?

Our YSC Points Series forms the backbone of our club racing, with regular Sunday racing throughout the season.

Three races a day split into results for each seasonal series, plus there's an overall point series which combines them all. 33 races scheduled over the whole year: Spring, Summer, and Autumn seasons

So last Sunday we had a great day for the Spring Points, with three races sailed - one before lunch and two in the afternoon. A good fleet and some close racing made for an enjoyable day all round.

Peter & Phill took the honours in the first two races, with Steve P & Holly winning the final race of the day.

Thanks to everyone who came out!

Race Officer Training Evening 🚩⛵

A fantastic and highly engaging Race Officer training session was run by Peter Craggs on Wednesday evening.

We covered the key essentials of race management, including laying a course, starting procedures, finishing, shortening courses, and interpreting a range of flag signals.

Plenty of useful discussion throughout and a really interesting session for everyone involved - definitely one that will help strengthen our on the water race organisation skills, and provide knowledge that can be shared across the club.

Thanks to everyone who attended!
