We are excited to be starting our Unity Dance Company sessions for adults with learning disabilities. The sessions are co facilitated by professional dance artists with and without learning disabilities. Sessions are free and fully funded by City of York Council Ward Funding. First session is Monday 18th October contact us to book a place.

Visual resources are a great way for young people to generate movement. It allows them to find new ways of moving by looking at texture, shape and pathway. Just like a young person will doodle on a page we create opportunities to doodle with our bodies.

We believe the best outfit for dancing is the one which each person chooses to wear. Yes there are some things to consider for safety but we love that we don't have a uniform for our classes. Plus it is another way to making dancing with us accessible as dance uniform can be expensive. So wear any colour, any style as long as you can move in it safely it is the right outfit for dance.

Throwing it back to the first project we did out of COVID Lockdown. We made a film with young people by taking over a building in York which was waiting to be demolished for redevelopment. OPEN CALL: PROFESSIONAL DANCE WORK

Everybody Dance Festival

Everybody Dance Festival is inviting professional dance artists and companies to submit a solo or duet work to be performed as part of this year’s festival at York Theatre Royal.

We are looking for engaging, high-quality professional dance work that is suitable for young people of all ages and will inspire, entertain and connect with festival participants and audiences.

The opportunity

Selected work will be performed during the festival:

For festival participants – providing young dancers with the opportunity to experience professional dance performance up close.

As part of the evening festival show – opening the evening programme at York Theatre Royal.

The selected piece will be performed twice on each festival day.

Festival dates 17th, 18th and 24th November

Fee

£600 per piece, per festival day

The fee is inclusive of the artist/company performance fee, travel and all expenses.

We are looking for

Solo or duet works

Maximum performance length of 10 minutes

Professional standard of performance

Work that is suitable and engaging for young people

Work that can be presented within a festival programme and theatre setting

A piece that offers young people an inspiring insight into professional dance practice and performance

We welcome a range of dance styles, approaches and creative voices.

Festival dates

17, 18 & 24 November

Selected artists/companies will perform their work on an agreed festival day, with specific performance times, technical requirements and scheduling confirmed with the successful artist/company.

Dance has been proven to be one of the best physical activities for increasing life expectancy. With its many benefits from physical development and brain stimulation to social connection and happiness. Dance more live longer. We have two classes a week specifically for people of the age of 55. There is also performance opportunities if people are interested.

New school coming along to the festival this year - extra special as it's Hannah's old primary school!!

Today was our first Dance Club session with Hannah from York Dance Space.
We had a fantastic group of talented and enthusiastic dancers who brought so much energy and excitement to our first session.
The group will be working towards a performance at the York Dance Festival in November, and we’re incredibly excited to be part of this wonderful project! We can’t wait to see what they create together. 🌟
