Chris Kwan aka Hang Jai have been with us since 2009 when he was 9 yro. He’s been a quiet boy and will crack a jokes sometimes. Being a very good runner, aim high with a fire🔥in his eyes but staying truly humble. Breaking Sub 3 PB 🏁on his recent Tokyo Marathon 2026 and let’s hear his story!

1. Tell us about your background in 3 words?
Runner, football, coffee lover

2.How long you have joined Team Sonic Triathlete? And how you find this Team?
First joined Sonic in 2009 or 2010. When I was a kid, my parents wanted me to burn some energy and not disturbing others in primary school lol… they found Sonic and asked me to go run n swim on weekday nights following the seniors like Charles, Gigi, Janice, etc…

3.What is your first race? Tell us a little bit how you feel?
Too many AG local aquathon in junior time. First real game was 70.3 Sunshine Coast in 2024, my first ever long distance and overseas race in my life. Amazing race course with unlimited support from Sonic coach n teammate, felt confident and so well prepared before the race🫶🏻

4.Use 3 words to describe Team Sonic Triathletes.
Family, supportive, bad influence😂

5.What is your upcoming race/goal?
No tri race coming up yet. But I’d like to smash a Sub430 for 70.3 Ironman distance next year. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Happy holidays from Hong Kong! Today we will introduce you Ruth, our rookie who joined us back in 2024 who barely can swim straight a 25m freestyle and she’s now been on podium of Durathlon, Aquathlon, and recently smashing her Champion 🥇 on her first Olympic Distance Triathlon. She will be joining us the Ironman 70.3 Sunshine Coast in this Sept. Welcome Ruth 💫

1. Tell us about your background in 3 words?

Ex- dancer, Recruitment, dog mum.

2. How long you have joined Team Sonic Triathlete? And how you find this Team?

I joined Sonics in July 2024. After playing netball in Hong Kong for a number of years, I had decided it was time for a new challenge and had given myself the goal of completing a triathlon (some might call it a millennial mid- life crisis!) After a quick google search, I found Sonics and went to a trial training session. Leaving netball behind, my biggest worry was that I would miss playing a team sport. However after joining Sonics, I quickly realised that I was still part of a team and haven’t looked back since.

3. What is your first race? Tell us a little bit how you feel?

My first race was an Aquathlon in Plover Cove. I was really excited to be doing my first race, but was also quite nervous! Having done a lot of race prep with Sonics, the race went smoothly (apart from almost losing my timing chip in the swim) and I was happy with my result.

4. Use 3 words to describe Team Sonic Triathletes.

Welcoming, supportive, like- minded.

5. What is your upcoming race/goal?

My next race is an Olympic Distance triathlon. It will be my first OD, so my main goal is to complete the race smoothly. I’m also hoping to do my first 70.3 race this year. If you’d told me two years ago that I’d be attempting a half Ironman, I would not have believed you! With the right training and support (and lots of encouragement from my teammates), Triathlon is a great way for me to keep pushing myself mentally and physically.

Others?💙

Today we welcome Lily she joined us back in 2024, despite her crazy work schedule, she is striking the balance of work, life and Triathlon together with her aviation, travels supported with her lovely family and cats. Recently added nutrition 🤭. Very supportive to the club and you will heard she always said I’m so tired and in a second she “Just Do It”. Our “Meet the Team Sonic athletes” is back! This week we are going to meet some of the new and old faces! 💙🔥stay tune and have a great read.
Leo have been with us since 2019 and a very dedicated hard working triathlete and a lovingly hubby to his wifey Rainbow. Big shoutout to Rainbow for being the cheering squad even under heatstroke!!🔥🤪so here is his story!

1. Tell us about your background in 3 words?
9-6 Desk-Job, Husband, Cat-Lover.

2. How long you have joined Team Sonic Triathlete? And how you find this Team?
I’ve been with Sonic for 7 years. I was introduced to the club by my ex-colleague and Sonic OG, Ivan. It’s been my triathlon home ever since!

3. What is your first race? Tell us a little bit how you feel?
My first “race” was a Sonic TT at Shek O right after I joined. I finished in last place! My swim back then was basically “controlled drowning”, but instead of being intimidated, I was hooked. I knew I just had to keep showing up.

4. Use 3 words to describe Team Sonic Triathletes.
Supportive, Fun, “Hotpot-loving.”

5. What is your upcoming race/goal?
My main goal is to go Sub-5 at the Sunshine Coast 70.3. I’m feeling stronger than ever, and I’m ready to step up for a 70.3 World Championship slot if the opportunity arises this year!

Others? 💙
I’ve learned that for my “thicker” build, triathlon is a science. I do core workouts every single day to keep my legs high in the water and support my power on the bike—it’s been a game-changer for my swim position!

Being a heavy sweater in HK, I also rely on precision carb and salt intake to survive the humidity. But at the end of the day, it’s the non-athlete side that keeps me here: the breakfast chats, the hotpot sessions, and the shared whining after a hard morning set with the Sonic family!

“Show what you made of! “💪🔥
That’s the mindset that defined our team’s adventure at the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Hengqin! Just a quick 2-hour drive across the bridge from HK, we jumped in, signed up, and discovered how this early-season gem unfolded on the stunning Tianmu River swim, Mangzhou Wetland bike, and Flower Sea Promenade run. What a debut! 🌊🚴‍♂️🏃‍♂️
Shoutout to the standouts who backed up their prep:
• skipped the off-season, crushed 13 weeks of solid training → PB!
• pivoted from marathon plans to nail a debut marathon + sub-3, then tackled his first real 70.3 sufferfest over 14 weeks → massive respect!
• came back for her second 70.3 with 10 weeks focused work → PB vs last year’s Shanghai!
• powered through despite a shoulder injury just 2 months ago → still hit 6hrs!
• flipped the script on his race mentality—from ‘just show up’ to full commitment → huge PB and time saved, inspiring his supporters big time!!!
And to the rest of the crew who got pulled in with minimal prep: you still showed up, faced the challenge, and finished (or gave it everything) on a tough inaugural course. That’s huge. Every race is a lesson, some prove what dedicated training unlocks, others remind us why showing up prepared turns ‘survive’ into ‘thrive’ and makes the whole experience way more enjoyable.
I’m always pushing solid prep because it lets us truly race the race, not just complete it. Proud of EVERYONE for the heart, the support on course, and the memories we built together as a team. Grateful for you all.
Rest, recover, reflect… and let’s keep leveling up. Next adventure already calling? 🔥

Thank you support team .ming thank you all crew cheering from home thank you for this video!
