Ringmahon Rangers 3–0 Lakewood
Both teams entered today’s game in excellent form, with both having won their previous two fixtures.
Ringmahon, at home and looking to build on that good form, came out all guns blazing and were unlucky not to take an early lead following some excellent attacking play from Regan Heffernan and Reagan Onoh
The chances continued to flow for Ringmahon, but a mixture of good goalkeeping and some missed opportunities meant the breakthrough didn’t come until just before half-time.
The opening goal came from a brilliant Zoe O’Leary corner, which was smashed home from close range by Shauna Onoh, who made no mistake to put Ringmahon 1–0 ahead on the stroke of half-time.
Ringmahon went into the break feeling their performance deserved to see them ahead, and perhaps by a goal or two more.
The second half started with exactly the same intensity.
In midfield, midfield Dynamic trio (Captain)Ava Stack , Kaylee Swords and Lexi Donovan provided the platform, while the wing play of Regan Heffernan continued to cause problems along with Reagan Onoh Up front, Belle Higgins and Shauna Onoh were constantly asking questions of the Lakewood centre-backs.
At the back, Zoe O’Leary was outstanding alongside the impressive Súin O’Neill and the excellent Roisin Kent, all marshalled by the ever-impressive goalkeeper Willow Hourihan who now has 3 clean sheets from 3.
The second goal arrived after a lovely pass through to Regan Heffernan on the left. Regan made no mistake, keeping her composure before drilling home to put Ringmahon 2–0 ahead.
The third followed after a brilliant pass from Georgia Di Piero through to Reagan Onoh, who made no mistake with the finish to put Ringmahon 3–0 up with five minutes remaining.
All four substitutes played a brilliant part in the game.
Isabelle Downey came on and did an excellent job of marshalling Lakewood’s best player for the final ten minutes. Georgia Di Piero was excellent with her distribution and tackling, while Brooklyn O’Brien every impressive as usual came on for Lexi Donovan during the final 15–20 minutes. Brooke O’Connor was also excellent when she came on and provided some wonderful balls.
A thoroughly deserved 3–0 victory for the girls, with another strong performance against a good Lakewood side.
Next up is an away trip to Carrigaline, which will be another really difficult venue and one that has proved problematic for us over the last few years.
