On a muggy Antrim afternoon last Sunday, Dublin Devils survived a second-half comeback from Belfast Blaze to leave with a draw on the day and maintain their aggregate lead from the first leg to, for the first time, retain the Declan Flynn Cup, supported by the Shared Island Civic Society Fund, administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

A trio of goal contributions each from Kevin Quinn and Jason Cullen in the first hour guided the Devils into what seemed for all the world to be a commanding lead as the side looked to control the tempo of the match and play their football away from home.

It is a credit to the Blaze’s spirit that they were able to battle on in order to turn things around from there, as they had been unlucky not to have scored a number of times earlier, with a succession of good chances repelled by goalkeeper Danny Bohan or edging just wide of the posts. The Devils pushed for a winner late on but could not crack the Blaze defence once again, leaving both teams to share the spoils.

Sunday's Player of the Match was at the core of everything the Devils got right that afternoon, from his key defensive interventions to keep them in the contest to his progressive passing from the back to relieve pressure and shift possession back up the field. Alongside his brother Adam, the two marshalled the defence from centre-back, maintaining shape and organisation amid a number of changes at full back. Congratulations Mark and thank you so much for your efforts!

This was the final match of the competitive football season but that doesn't mean the fun is over! You can join us at one of our thrice weekly social football kickabouts, our monthly open development training sessions or at the Pride of Dalymount five-a-side tournament we are co-hosting with Bohemians on Saturday 20th June!

DUBLIN DEVILS FC ARE GFSN SHIELD WINNERS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE CLUB'S HISTORY!

On a scorching Saturday afternoon in East London, the Devils battled through a nail-biting, bone-crunching contest against Millwall Romans to claim the club's first GFSN Shield Final win.

In a Player of the Match performance, Jack O'Toole fired home two first half goals, somewhat against the run of play, one a sumptuous free kick rocketed into the top corner, to give the Devils a half time lead as they successfully repelled the efforts of a quick, strong and athletic Millwall side over the course of the first 45 minutes to protect John McGuinness's net.

Millwall reorganised tactically at the half and were able to halve their deficit on the back of a sustained level of pressure on the embattled Devils backline. Injuries to a number of players added extensively to the match clock at the referee's discretion, meaning that when the whistle rang out to end the contest over an hour after the second half kicked off, it is a surprise that more of the Devils did not collapse from exhaustion rather than jumping for joy in understandable jubilation at their victory.

Thank you so much to all of the supporters who came to cheer on the lads, you contributed massively to the positive display on the pitch from the team and thank you so much to the lads who left absolutely everything out there on the field to bring the Shield home.

Last weekend saw the Devils take the lead in the first leg of the Declan Flynn Cup against Belfast Blaze on an overcast Sunday in Kimmage.

Jason Cullen scored for the Devils on his 11-a-Side debut for the club and Paul Hanley had an incredible match, scoring five and assisting another but the Player of the Match was Anthony Spillane.

Deputised at centre back for the afternoon, Anthony contributed massively to the clean sheet with his individual defensive interventions, organisation and progressive passing. Congratulations Anthony!

Next up for the Devils is the GFSN Shield Final against Millwall Romans this Saturday and keep your eyes peeled here for details of the Declan Flynn Cup second leg away in Belfast when they're confirmed. Up the Devils! 💪

March was a tough month for the squad overall, with successive defeats kicking off the month, despite positive, constructive performances by the Devils players. The squad's Player-Manager Cian Hade would like to thank in particular the players who stepped in during this difficult period, whether returning to competitive Devils action or making their debuts, as in the case of March's Dublin Devils Inter 7s Player of the Month, Jason Cullen.

Jason joined the squad in March and immediately marked his debut with a Player of the Match performance, scoring the side's only goal, an energy he was able to maintain, scoring in each of his four consecutive appearances; ending the streak with a hat trick on March 30th to earn the Devils their second win of the season in a tight-fought battle. Comhghairdeas Jason & keep 'er lit!
