Our Irish athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics at Milan Cortina showed bravery, grit and meaningful success; and their experience offers clear lessons for every sport...

We’re not talking or hearing about needing to build snow-covered mountains in Ireland for better training facilities or demanding more investment into the Winter sports in this country without real ‘winters’… (although that would be amazing..!).

We’re instead talking about making the most of what we have, maximising current efforts (not just focusing on potential or ‘what ifs’), accepting the limitations and adjusting our expectations instead.

There are huge lessons here for all sports and athletes:

🔥 Winter sport culture is one where daring and bravery are highly valued, even if the performance isn’t perfect or the score doesn’t reflect the effort. The effort (hard work) in itself is what counts and what earns the respect of the community.

🔥 Athlete safety and wellbeing is a top priority, not just for event organisers but for the athletes themselves. They know when to push their limits or pull back, better than most.

🔥 We can all celebrate resilience by teaching challenge-focused coping and structured reflection.

🔥 We can all embed simple arousal-regulation tools (pre-performance routines, breathing, imagery) to improve consistency and ultimately performance level.

🔥 We can all nurture intrinsic motivation through values-aligned goal-setting; build self-efficacy with progressive tasks, feedback and modelling.

🔥 And we can all strengthen wellbeing with formal peer‑support and coach-led psychological skills.

For programmes of any size: prioritise scalable mental skills training and ecological optimisation, rapid remote access to support during events, coach up skilling in basic, supervised psychology, and dual‑career planning so athletes thrive now and long beyond competition.

Congratulations , , Annabelle Zurbay, and all involved in the , and ! 👏

What a phenomenal Games for us! 💪🔥🇮🇪🎿

Davis Cup World Group II | Ireland V Syria | February 2026

We narrowly lost the tie to Syria in a very tight battle 2:3... yes WE. All of us - Ireland.
People have been asking me since what the lessons of the weekend could be... 🤓

Link in bio for the full post on LinkedIn!
Here’s a preview…

We need to rejuvenate the ecosystems around our players at all levels. Instead of asking ‘why aren’t our players good enough?’ we need to ask ourselves ‘what in our system is shaping this outcome?’ and the answer might be, in part, YOU.

WE ARE THE ECOLOGY of Irish tennis.
Let’s choose encouragement over criticism, presence over passivity and celebration of effort and attitude as much as outcome. We will get ‘there’, but only all together. Especially through the tougher times.

Well done and congratulations to everyone in , , and all involved behind the scenes. and all the sponsors!

I’m proud of , , , , , and .buldorini and how they represented us! 💪🔥🇮🇪

Congratulations to on the big win! 👏

Athletes, the holidays don’t make you less committed. It’s just time to be human. 🫣

One of the most common things I hear from athletes is guilt around rest and time off… “I should be training” or “I’m falling behind”.
But here’s the truth: recovery is not the opposite of performance, it’s part of it. 💪

Time off restores your nervous system, sharpens focus, rebuilds motivation, and reminds you why you love your sport in the first place. Stepping away can actually help you come back stronger, clearer, and more driven. 🥇

So eat the food. Sleep in. Laugh with your people. Train your mind by letting it breathe.

Guilt-free rest is a performance skill.
Enjoy the holidays, you’ve all earned them. ❤️‍🔥

Thank you to everyone who collaborated with Emblaze Sports Performance Psychology this year, I am beyond grateful for all the time, energy and lessons we shared. Looking forward to seeing you all again in 2026! 🙌

An incredible experience meeting (Irelands only) ATP Tour Umpire Fergus Murphy! 🎾🔥

Listening to his stories and anecdotes was an absolute joy. I was expecting a serious presentation full of important rules, reminders of the challenges and the importance of stoicism… well I was wrong. Fergus was hilarious, relatable and full of positivity reflecting on the fun and learning moments of his unfathomable achievements! 🙌👏

Thank you to Fergus for sharing his experience so openly and answering so many questions and to Cathal & CIAC for organisinTennis Ireland

Tennis Ireland should be so proud to have Fergus representing us and we should all be so lucky to get aCiac Tennis Club

❤️‍🔥 National Disability in Sport Week 2025 ❤️‍🔥

Psychology is for everyone, coaching is for everyone, sports are for everyone...!
At Emblaze Sports Performance Psychology, this is an unshakeable core belief, not just part of ‘the brand’. And let me tell you, it is SO much fun! 🥳

This year, I had incredible opportunities to be involved with some remarkable athletes on the Blind / Visually Impaired Irish national tennis team and the brand new Para Standing Tennis programs, launched in all four Provinces in 2025 and both part of the Tennis Ireland ‘Enjoy Tennis’ programmes. 🎾

I am so grateful to the players, coaches and all involved in Tennis Ireland and Sport Ireland not only for building these initiatives, but for welcoming me with such warmth and enthusiasm. Thank you to Vision Sports Ireland for the additional training - making my on-court hybrid tennis/psychology sessions possible! 🥳

Witnessing these players’ success is an honour, and it reminds me that we are all in this together, learning from one another regardless of our backgrounds or abilities. These players have made me feel included and valued too, which has meant the world. I can’t wait for all that 2026 has in store. ❤️‍🔥

Let’s continue to celebrate the amazing individuals who push boundaries in sports and advocate for inclusive practices in all areas of life. Together, we can create environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 🦾🔥
