From the Canal Bank to the Green of Ireland 💚

A massive congratulations to Shay McCarthy on receiving his first international call-up, having been named in the Ireland XV squad to face Fiji A in Cork this November!

Shay's rugby journey began right here at the Canal Bank, coming through our underage ranks and St Munchins College before moving to Young Munster RFC to play adult rugby. Since then, we've watched with enormous pride as his rugby career has gone from strength to strength. His fantastic performances for Munster this season have been a joy to watch, and this latest recognition is thoroughly deserved.

But what makes Shay's story even more special is that he has never forgotten his roots. Even when he wasn't playing with us, he was never far from the sidelines, cheering on the lads and supporting his home club. This season, we're delighted to have him back involved, sharing his knowledge and experience as part of our adult coaching team, working with our men's backs.

And it's not just Richmond who can celebrate this achievement. Shay is a fantastic example of the sporting talent that comes out of our community, having also represented Fairview Rangers in soccer and St Patrick's in Gaelic football. This is a proud moment for Richmond RFC, Fairview Rangers, St Patrick’s GAA and everyone in the community who has watched Shay grow from a talented young sportsman into the player he is today.

A special mention must also go to Shay's family, who have been such a big part of Richmond RFC over the years. We know just how much this moment will mean to them, and nobody will be prouder watching him pull on that green jersey. It's a wonderful achievement for the whole McCarthy-Burbage family, and one we're delighted to share in.

Shay, everyone in the club is absolutely thrilled for you. You've worked incredibly hard, remained grounded, and never forgotten where it all began. We couldn't be prouder of you! 💚🤍

Enjoy every minute of this well-deserved opportunity.

🏉 WEEKEND RUGBY ROUNDUP 🟢⚪

🌧️💨 What a weekend of rugby! The weather certainly didn't make things easy, but our young players showed fantastic determination and spirit in some horrendous conditions!

🏉 J2
Unfortunately, our J2 fixture against Clanwilliam didn't go ahead.

💗 U14 GIRLS
A fantastic win for our U14 girls against a very strong and physical Galbally side! 💪

After last week's defeat, the girls bounced back in style with a brilliant team performance across the board. Great character and determination shown by the entire squad! 👏

💚 U14 BOYS
Our U14 boys took to the pitch last night in absolutely horrendous wind and rain against St Mary's/Thomond.

In a closely contested game, the boys were narrowly beaten and can be very proud of their efforts! 👏

👏 A massive well done to both our U14 teams! Playing rugby in those conditions is no easy task, and it was fantastic to see the commitment, teamwork and determination from both squads.

A big thank you also to our coaches, parents and supporters who braved the elements over the weekend! ☔
