We are delighted to see the launch of Rock Pickleball.
We a delighted to announce the launch of Rock Pickleball at St Clements Sports Hub.
Pickleball has taken the world by storm over last few years, seen by some racket purists as something of a non sport it has moved to a more established footing where it is widely accepted as one of, if not the fastest growing sport in the world with over 25 million people playing worldwide.
Across the water in the UK, pickleball is beginning to follow suit with the sport seeing a 65% surge in players over the last year and claims of over 40,000 players now taking up the sport at recreational and competitive levels across the home nations.
In Jersey, the growth of pickleball is echoing what is being seen elsewhere with more and more people keen to try what is a sociable, welcoming and fun sport but one that also provides high levels of competition for those who want it.
Over the last few months, and working closely with St Clements Sports Hub and Jersey Sport, Rock Pickleball has slowly been taking shape. Jersey’s first accredited Pickleball club has achieved Green Status under Jersey Sports, Safe and Sustainable Sport Framework, the club is affiliated to Pickleball England and is now ready to launch using the newly resurfaced outdoor courts at St Clements.
Speaking about Rock Pickleball and the future Chairman Sean Pontin said, ‘Rock Pickleball is very much focused on bringing pickleball to anyone who wants to play and making sure everyone has the opportunity to use the fantastic new courts at St Clements. Our focus this summer is simply to give the community the opportunity to give it a go and we are grateful that St Clements are supporting us to offer a number of free sessions to people who haven’t played before and to people who might not think they can. Perhaps those where affordability might be issue or people with a disability. Whoever you are we want people to feel able to just come and give it a go’
Sean continued, ‘We are also very aware that lots of great work has already taken place to get pickle on the map in Jersey and our goal is very much to make sure what we are offering compliments that rather than competes with other venues and set ups.’
The club are offering 2 free social evenings on Wednesday 29th and Friday 31st July from 6-8pm for anyone who has played before and wants to meet new people. From 5th August, Wednesday and Friday evenings will continue for a small cost of £5 per player.
