We’re thrilled to be working with NatureTrust Malta this year to help safeguard the future of Loggerhead Turtles by conducting weekly patrols at Gozo’s only known nesting beach, Ramla Bay. With 4 nests confirmed at Ramla last year, we’re eagerly awaiting this year’s first nest.

Did you know?
🥚 A Loggerhead turtle can lay 3-5 nests per season, with each nest containing roughly 100 eggs

⏰ Female Loggerheads return to shore on average every 2-3 years to lay eggs

🫧 Loggerhead turtles can hold their breath for up to 10 hours under the right conditions

Invasive species alert!!!

The Dusky Spinefoot (Siganus luridus) — a reminder of how invasive species are reshaping Gozo’s ecosystem. Originally from the Red Sea, this rabbitfish species entered through the Suez Canal. Grazing on native algae, they turn vibrant ecosystems into barren wastelands and outcompete native species.

This particular individual was spotted in the shallows of Xatt L’Ahmar Reef 🌍🐟🌊
