Surfcoach - Learn to Surf

Today, our fabulous surf tour in North Sumatra came to an end, and what an experience it has been! Crazy jungle trek to meet the Orangutans, river rafting, amazing surf breaks, yummy food and most importantly: beautiful connection with the people we met.

We experienced everything: oppressive tropical heat, coral reef cuts, dinged surfboards, massive wipeouts. We, surf gals, had to adapt to local customs, covering up (even in the surf) to respect strict Muslim law. Buffalos, chickens, cows, and goats roaming the roads was definitely something you don’t see everyday. Sumatra’s way of life will definitely stay in our minds and hearts!

Today we concluded our surf safe programme for this season with the amazing students from Te Waka Unua School. They were in great spirits!

This entry level programme is designed for school groups between the age of 8 -14 years. The programme teaches the basics of surfing and bodyboarding with a strong emphasis on surf safety and it has been running in schools in the Buller, Westland and Christchurch regions for over 20 years.

In Sumner, sun was out, wind was off and the waves were mint. Epic session 🤙

We’re open every day over the Christmas period except Xmas Day. Open 10 am to 6 pm with Lessons most days, Surfkids at 10 am and Adults at 1 pm.

Daily surf lessons for adults kick off tomorrow at 1pm! Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to improve your skills, our passionate crew is here to help. We'd love to have you join us at the beach! Online bookings available!

From the country to the beach! This week we had the pleasure of hosting Mayfield School learning to surf with us.

They traveled 2 hours from the foothills close to the Southern Alps to spend the morning with us in Sumner! How great for the kids to get to learn in and outside the rural setting!
